On a serious note, I really think the NCAA needs to lighten up on the rules, and allow teams to offer some kind of assistance for travel/lodging on unofficial visits or official invitees to their football camps.

Many of these kids come from poor families, and even a middle income family doesn't have thousands laying around to burn on multiple visits and camps.

It's a damn shame if TG is really having trouble arranging transportation here and back....and our Athletic Dept is prohibited by NCAA legal BS from helping him get back home.

In fact, if I'm CBJ, I'm buying the kid a bus/plane ticket, and immediately reporting it to the NCAA, saying violation or not...it's the right thing to do. Cannot sit here, know he's struggled financially to get here, and having an equal amount of trouble getting back...without doing something to help.

I don't really have an issue with it. They allow for the (5) OV's and those are pretty much paid for in full. I believe the thinking is take your UOV's a little closer to home and use the OV's for schools further away. If schools were allowed to pay for UOV's these kids would literally be taking 20-30+ all over the country. Leave it like it is IMO.

I'm sure they could put a limit on it...like 1 UOV's per school + 2 camps max. Regardless, it should be up to the Athletic Department to decide. That's why there is a huge storm coming between the Big 5 Power Conferences who don't like being under the thumb of the NCAA so much, and want a great deal of Autonomy.

It's going to happen one way or the other.

1 UOV per school. You realize that a recruit could then take 100+ UOV's? Of course they probably would not, but if it's free, IMO it would be absolute craziness. If they did anything, bumping up the OV's to maybe 8-10IMO would really be the only thing they could do. If UOV's are paid for, it's really no different than an OV.

Again, what skin is it off the NCAA's nose if a university is willing to foot the bill? It really shouldn't be any of their damn business. Limiting the number of trips per school is reasonable enough...but if 20 schools are extending scholarship offers to an athlete, what business is it of the NCAA's to tell them they can't visit each of them?

Plus, it doesn't have to be all expenses paid, either. It could be limited to travel or lodging expenses only...the athlete gets to choose. This way disadvantaged kids have the same amount of access to visit schools and camps as do privileged kids.

The same people holding out hope for TG to play QB are the same people holding out hope for Jon Gruden to be the UT coach.

Oh yeah I forgot you're one of those who thinks they know more than CBJ does. Maybe you should call him and ask him why he is still recruiting Gibson.

Were you born with a superiority complex or is it something that you've had to practice?

I'd wager at this point in time there are very few people who are hoping for Gruden to coach the Vols. There are still several people out there, including some major recruiting services who are paid good money to evaluate talent, who believe that Torrance Gibson is being recruited as a quarterback.
