Going to be a Negavol for a minute, but the timing of this new top 7 and his Barn visit set up the announcement of a new leader in his recruitment if I have ever seen one. Hope I am wrong. I really want this kid and believe in him. Would hate to see him go down there for the wrong reasons.

By wrong reasons, do you mean 200,000 of them?

Personally, I think the RF departure is a good reason why we should continue to trust Butch Jones & Co to recruit quality character, attitudes, and work ethic. Riley's failure to earn the trust of the team and the coaches demonstrates to me that the players that will succeed at Tennessee will work hard and earn their success. Thus, I have no issue with TG having some struggles in high school with completion % or attitude issues. If he is willing to work and grow, he can succeed with the talents he has been given.

Buy low, sell high.

So if he has an attitude/leadership issue in HIGH SCHOOL...stands to reason it'll only get better when the pressure and spotlight magnifies sevenfold??? :confused:

Exactly, I mean, what program wouldn't want a kid who fought his high school teacher?

Shows leadership, toughness, maturity, etc.

From what I read, one of the attitude issues he has had is frustration with his coach wanting to move him to WR. I didn't make that up, right? I think that demonstrates passion and will fuel his work ethic. I don't know anything about him except for the couple of interviews I've seen/heard him do, but he doesn't appear to be excessively cocky or disrespectful.

I think the main point I was trying to make was that if the coaching staff has any issues with TG as a QB, he won't earn playing time. It's all a gamble, and we don't have the best perspective to make these judgments. I think we'll pass on TG if a.) someone else high on the board commits soon, or b.) if the coaches become convinced somehow that they were wrong in their early evaluations. However, I think we take him if he wanted to commit today.

So if he comes to Tennessee, does not work out at QB and then decides to transfer vs playing another position does he then get ripped for not being a team player and or a competitor?

I'd also point out if you follow recruiting much especially on this board if he gets to UT and does not become a top caliber player within a year or so a lot of the same folks screaming to take him and hope he progresses will be calling for him to be processed to make room for the next "big fish". Happens all the time.

Yeah, I don't disagree. People are fickle. My original point was that I think we can trust the coaching staff to make wise decisions about who will be QB. Obviously talent isn't the only criteria, i.e., Riley Ferguson.

It does appear that Riley was unhappy for whatever reason. If he did not want to be a Vol anymore, it is what it is. Just wish him well and hopefully he finds what he is looking for closer to home. A lot of big time talent just does not pan out once it gets to college for various reasons.
