Oh wait. It's the recruiting forum where there are tons of posters and sometimes discussions happen, even if they stray slightly from the "only positive news or the thread is a dumpster fire" protocol.

I'll just get over it, I guess.

No offense guy but you really don't know what you're talking about. All you're going off of is the last 10-15 pages of this thread.

Silly me going off the recent parts of a thread.

I'll check the beginning!

Eureka! Excitement over Gibson!!

/guy falls into big pile of poo
/refreshes it to see if anything feels different
/gets mad when it still feels like poo

Personally, I think he has a pretty firm grasp. It's people having a discussion, whether it's a discussion people are a fan of or not. It's not talking about stupid sh** that is discussed here daily like dog farts, the same old jokes, or things like that. It was a relevant discussion, and some didn't like it, and demanded it to stop. If they didn't like it, they can ignore it. People have a right to discuss. Not directed at anyone, more a general statement where he's coming from. And he's not wrong

This is a prime example of what happens when grown men get emotionally attached to 16 year-old recruits. Silliness ensues.

I don't think it's silliness. This is very serious "survival of the tribe" stuff. :)

Psychologists have long suspected that many die-hard fans are lonely, alienated people searching for self-esteem by identifying with a sports team. But a study at the University of Kansas suggests just the opposite -- that sports fans suffer fewer bouts of depression and alienation than do people who are uninterested in sports.

One theory traces the roots of fan psychology to a primitive time when human beings lived in small tribes, and warriors fighting to protect tribes were true genetic representatives of their people, psychologists say.

In modern society, professional and college athletes play a similar role for a city in the stylized war on a playing field, the theory goes. Even though professional athletes are mercenaries in every sense, their exploits may re-create the intense emotions in some fans that tribal warfare might have in their ancestors. It may also be these emotions that have in large part fueled the explosion in the popularity of sports over the last two decades.

''Our sports heroes are our warriors,'' Robert Cialdini, a professor of psychology at Arizona State, said about sports fans. ''This is not some light diversion to be enjoyed for its inherent grace and harmony. The self is centrally involved in the outcome of the event. Whoever you root for represents you.''

'tis interesting that you should provide that citation. A similar phenomenon has been observed in terms of increased testosterone levels among fans of victorious sports teams: "A new University of Missouri study has found that testosterone levels during group competition are modulated depending on the relationships among the competitors and may be related to the formation of alliances in warfare" (Male testosterone levels increase when victorious in competition against rivals, but not friends -- ScienceDaily). Viewed in that context, it is not surprising that the Southeastern Tribes described lacrosse as the "Little Brother of War."

"One interesting thing about humans is that we are the only animal that competes in teams," said Mark Flinn, professor of anthropology at MU. "Our hormonal reactions while competing are part of how we evolved as a cooperative species. What we found in our study is that although male's testosterone levels increase when men are victorious against strangers or rivals, levels of the hormone tend to stay the same when competing against friends." Competing in sport coalitions can raise testosterone levels in males, but males don't have to be competing in order to see a rise in testosterone. Flinn says that when watching a favorite sport team the viewer is a part of a coalition of fans in the community and can also get a rise in testosterone levels while watching games.

"For example, when MU plays the University of Kansas, males will probably have a huge increase of testosterone during the game and afterwards if their team is victorious," Flinn said. "At the same time we can create a coalition of fans while attending the game and bond together during the event."

TG's recruitment turned hinky for me when he started setting twitter announcements for which all-star team he was going to play for while people were awaiting his paring down from 25 teams. Between him and Zach Gentry,I preferred the latter's film and him as a prospect...personal opinion? You don't have a right to it on this thread. Some of Gibson's supporters on here could give Cuonzo apologists a run for their money! I still feel that the kid is a major priority for Butch, and that's enough in my book to wait out the suspension imbroglio until all the facts come in...but anyone getting worked up by LV suggesting that we might be ok with Jennings and a walkon going forward, while going full court press on 2016 prospects...need to consult their doctor concerning their blood pressure an anxiety medication dosage!!! Ramp it up Doctor Feelgood!!! There's a legitimate concern about this kid's discipline and leadership...which is kinda important for the position :eek:k:

Here's a suggestion...start a TG Hero Worship thread in the Pub. :dance2: You shouldn't get too many dissenting opinions in there and you can share endorphins and needles to your hearts content...in a magical fantasyland where the dude has no accuracy issues and never has to play WR. :clapping:

I wish Dooley was still here. We never had to get mad about him bringing in 5 star and top 250 players in the country. If TG is as bad of a qb as some of you experts think then what's wrong with bringing him in and if he strikes out at qb and doesn't pan out then plug him into wr or cb. Maybe thats not too logical or I'm just not getting it. He's extremely athletic I don't think he would have a problem running the zone read at UT but if he can't hit the broad side of a barn you could play him at 2-3 other positions.

Ban-worthy, IMO.

This thread wow. My take on Gibson and the qb situation is this if he wants in take him roll with he and Jennings this year and next year take an elite pocket passer. I think gibson could be a great QB one day as well as Jennings but both are great athletes who will have a position no matter what. Williams as a walk on I am totally fine with as well. Just my two cents don't understand all the gibson hate he is a kid.

I really have not seen any Gibson hate posted. Just people who don't agree he is our best QB option and/or have reasonable concerns over disciplinary problems. Lack of worship of the kid does not equate to hate of him. Except on VolNation that is.

What if taking 2 in 2015 leads to you getting 0 in 2016 like it did in 2014?

I think Jalen McClendon has set up another scheduled visit.
