'15 FL DE Marques Ford (FORMER UT commit)

huh? Please do share that Rutgers would be an ivy league school. That's news to me.

Rutgers is a nice state school. Nothing more, nothing less.

Where are you getting your information that Vandy, Stanford, and UNC are the same as any other school in undergrad?

I'm pretty sure Rutgers was about to be an ivy league school when they pulled out because of some political issues.

I worked extensively at the undergrad level with professors at UNC and vandy, and I saw first hand their lectures, exams, syllabi, etc...and they were no more challenging than my UT classes. I worked on the east coast, but my West coast counterpart said the same was true of stanford, Cal, etc...except for some specialty programs like engineering.

Rutgers on the other hand, was noticeably on a higher level even for undergrads.

Because they are. I don't know if I would include Stanford in that necessarily, but UNC and Vandy for sure. The only possible advantage is that you might make a connection or two there that would make landing a gig after graduation easier. Where you get your actual undergraduate degree is almost irrelevant these days. All that matters is that you have one and that you meet the right people while earning it.

Yep. Stanford wasn't down to the level of UNC according to what I heard, but still very similar to other pac 12 schools as far as how rigorous the undergrad courses are.

My wife graduated from Vanderbilt. She has said that she did not feel like the undergrad courses there were probably any harder than anywhere else.....just more expensive.

TIFWIW......she is a Vandy fan so.....there is that.

At the risk of sounding like LV, this is the one recruiting maneuver by Butch that I really, really don't like. I understand recruiting is a man's game and that Butch must put the best team in the field that he can. This kid, however, was talented and loyal. I know the Phillips commitment may have taken the staff by surprise but I still don't like cutting this guy loose after he stuck with UT and rebuffed other programs due to his commitment. Sure, ending up at Rutgers isn't the worst thing ever, but Rutgers isn't a football powerhouse and isn't a huge upgrade, if it is an upgrade, from UT academically. I wish Ford the best and wish he was a Vol.

LV? Did Vader come back?

I think the real question is this.

If Butcher wasn't an EE, would they have kept Ford and cut Butcher? It's tough not only because you're measuring upside but also we will be recruiting Butcher's high school often.

If it was between Ford and butcher, I would take butcher every time.

If Ford was an EE I'd take him. Jmo

There medical program is still one of the top in the country. No one can bet against that.

How many football players do you know of that go to med school?

Rutgers is an excellent University so he will get a fine education. I wish Butch had pulled this kid's scholly a little earlier and given LSU a chance to get in it. We needed bodies at DE this past cycle and only ended up with 2.

Butch is not stupid, I was afraid he would end up at another sec school myself. Luckily it didn't happen.

Edit: I know of at least one that went to med school, played for Wisconsin.

Folks go pretty hard on CBJ when he let's guys go, but I find it telling the number of them that ultimately end up as busts or JUCO. Seems like he might actually know what best more often than not.

Idk if this guy is really a bust or if he really was truly uncomfortable at Rutgers. Being so far from home and losing position and head coach after a year of red shirting to add weight and muscle to his frame. Think the kid can be a good football player at the D-1 level, just think he wants a fresh start as he was kind of forced/rushed in at Rutgers last minute. Wish the best for this kid.

Lol

Or better yet why not figure out they can't play dead in a western from the start?
