Agree I think a RS made sense for him anyway to put on good weight. We are pretty strong on DE for this year but will def need him next year. It's better to clean it up now instead of him missing a good opportunity next year.

Also got Austin Smith who is gonna be a hybrid DE/LB just like Maggitt. That kid is already 235lbs as well.

wasn't really talking in terms of depth but more in terms of he wasn't needed much anyway year 1 and he needed more weight. He has more chance to impact next year than this year. So redshirt doesn't hurt him as much.

Redshirt will benefit him but he's one of those types that would have demanded playing time by sheer will and effort. This minor setback gives the staff an out.

He was already a likely option to rs due to his size. So I think it's almost a certainty at this point.
