'15 DE GA Andrew Butcher (UT Commit 6/8/13)

Of all of the reasons to hate Kiffin, I think letting Tajh Boyd go was the one I hated him most for. That kid would have done special things here. I mean, sure, Bray was fine. But...Boyd was a Heisman candidate. And he was ours. Ugh.

And yeah...I know...Newton too.

There was a chance for Newton?

Well, once Auburn outbid us, no....

No, I'm pretty sure that Cam was very high on us, and that Lane decided to go with Matt Simms as the Juco QB instead. Which fit Kiffin's brand of offense more, of course.

But mercy, what a mistake. Three QBs, really 4 if you count Bryce Petty, and of all of them, we chose the worst one.

Petty, Boyd, Newton....and Sims.

It's the curse.

I posted a thread in the FF containing an interview where Tajh Boyd mentions that he still roots for Tennessee on the side and that he's been to several UT BB games in the last few years.

From Rivals on Tuesday. Didnt' see it posted.

Recruiting Wrap: Butcher is committed to Tennessee.

Performance: Butcher had a monster game and thanks to his performance, his team was able to stay in the game early despite a poor start offensively. He finished the game with 11 total tackles and 2.5 sacks and was nearly impossible to slow down as a pass rusher. He also pulled double duty as a long snapper and recovered a fumble while playing on special teams. With the way his team's offense looked, Butcher is going to have to have a big year to help his team and he got off to a pretty good start.

Grade: A

Totally agree, and that's an unbiased statement. But it doesnt hurt that he is a V4L. :shades:

Since I don't have much to do today because we're in limbo about moving and I'm packed, I will do some scouting reports on our defensive line commits.

The report might be inaccurate due to being junior film unless I can get some senior stuff.

Make it happen.

Run technique: 9/10

This kid is absolutely amazing at taking on the run. He is able to take on two blockers at a time at the HS level and still make a play. The key to run technique is getting off the blocks he's on. He does a masterful job of it at defensive end. This kid can play the strongside due to his ability to shed blocks and swarm to the carrier.

Closing speed: 7/10

This is not this kid's best attribute. He can be a bit slow on closing the running game. He won't catch up to a quick runningback on the outside, but that's why we have linebackers. His ability to take the correct angle makes up for all of that

Size: 8/10

I don't believe the BS about growing another inch to become a five star. He has a great build that he can add 10 to 20 pounds onto.

Motor: 10/10

This kid never gives up on a play. When he has multiple guys in front of him, he will take them on and be able to get to the QB. He has an elite motor in this regard. I absolutely love this kid's motor; it's absolutely amazing. He will at times run other players into the ball carrier.

Pass Technique: 9/10

He can improve on a few tiny things, but he's almost perfect. He can rip, bull rush, shed, and actually spin very good. This kid should not use the swim move, because his other moves are deadly. He will engage the OT and get off of him within 2 seconds.

Summary:

He is very stout in the run game, but he can improve his closing speed a bit. His motor makes up for the short comings of his. He won't take a down off, and he does not rely on one move alone.

Only played 2 1/2 quarters. Had 4 tackles, a sack, several hurries, knocked 2 QB's out of the game, recovered a fumble, and scored a TD from fullback on goal line.
