'15 AL PG Lamonte Turner (UT commit 4/28/15)

Again. it was just plain stupid not to take a 2nd PG or at least a combo Guard last spring. Tookie Brown would have been a quality insurance policy and (BOT) I don't give a damn about how highly rated he was or wasn't, you have to have depth at every position especially PG.

If there was any serious doubt about turner not making it then I completely agree with you.

This is the kind of thing that could be looked back on as the first step in a failed tenure if turner isn't cleared.

If he doesn't make it then the first abbreviated recruiting class for Barnes will be a massive failure IMO. A PG was an absolute must and all our eggs are in turners basket. That basket better not be empty!!!

It's a secondary violation, and according to VQ, the only penalty is losing the scholarship for the current year, which you essentially lose by defaukt if the player eventually doesn't qualify.

So, where is the actual risk?

The last thing UT Basketball needs is any type of violation or penalty.

Guess you could have done a better job than Barnes

I think that's a blanket statement that doesn't necessarily apply if the only punishment is losing the scholarship that you have lost already by a player not qualifying.

Now, breaking this rule multiple times obviously could lead to a major violation with stiffer penalties, but given our obvious PG shortage, I think it's worth the risk IMO.

Yes I am disappointed we aren't rolling the dice. Also makes we worry the staff doesn't feel very confident this is going to end well. If they felt it was only a formality he would be here already IMO

No insider, however a friend who has connections to the basketball staff told me to expect good news about this today.

Don't shoot the messenger, and I have no stats other than 6'2" 245lb :)

Would love it!! Sounds very possible with what Vq has been saying

Good to hear.

Sidenote: I can't read your screen name and not sing LL Cool J in my head. Happens. Every. Time.

I really hate comebacks like this; BruinVol isn't a veteran coach so throwing that back at him is useless.

Plus by that logic, only peers could criticize the job people do. I get there is something to a guy like Barnes knows what he's doing compared to the rest of us, but that doesn't make him above valid criticism.

Kinda feel like I'm about to get blasted for this but I thought of Fionna Apple.

Hoping like heck the news is good today.

Have been told that Lamonte Turner is on his way to Knoxville and will start classes tomorrow barring a last-minute change.

Now, this does not mean from what I understand, that he has made it through the Clearinghouse yet. There are still some things to be determined about his eligibility. However, just my opinion, I don't think that Tennessee would have brought him in if they didn't feel reasonably optimistic that things were going to work out for him.

Vq has said he isn't cleared and bringing him beforehand is a potential violation if he isn't cleared

And just yesterday said he wouldn't be brought to campus until he was cleared. Something changed and likely they now feel it's all a formality

The KNS article says he was admitted to school, but the sports issue is not settled as of yet. Those were Turner's words in an interview.
