Good info. Not sure about the scat back thing tho. I'll admit I haven't watched much Cincinnati football, but I do remember Isiaiah Pead pounding away at our defense in 2011.

that was my first thought too, Pead had to be a 200 pnd back.
Not many offenses can say they use 6'3 tailbacks though

I think Hurd is something of a freak of nature with his size, speed, and vision. I don't think anybody is gonna Tajh Boyd him. You fit your system to those kind of athletes.

From some of the things I have read it almost sounds like Butch will change his offense to what he has got. I remember hearing about how we are gonna use more two TE sets. TE's have mentioned it and it was in Hurd's thread too. May see more Patriot type offense.

Got to talk to Josh at the FBU camp at Riverdale in Murfreesboro this week before he went to his Vandy camp, but couldn't really get him to say who is favorite team was. He did say that Tennessee is up there. I started asking him what he thought about this years recruiting class and he said that Butch was doing a great job, but he didn't understand why Jalen had committed to Tennessee because of Jones' typical "scat back" running system. He is a great guy, and I got to see him run a few drills on the field. He has definitely grown and is a legit 6'4 and pushing 6'5. He also said that he has just now reached 190 lbs.

Good info
But for accuracy, yes UC had some scat backs but Pead was the primary RB. He was ab 210lbs. Not really a scat back. I just feel like Malone doesn't like Jalen. Bottom line.

The fact that he brought up the Jalen Hurd and scat back thing sounds like someone (my guess would be Franklin) has been negatively recruiting him against us. Why would a WR care or research what kind of RB Butch has used in the past?... Pretty weird he would bring that up in conversation. Franklin has done a great job of selling this kid to even keep VU in the conversation. Their O-Line and running game will be non existent after next season and they will have an unproven QB with no legit options at WR to throw to... Boy sign me up! I wouldn't trust Franklin as far as I could throw him and sure as hell wouldn't let my son go play for a snake like him.

Just reading the tea leaves here, but it sure seems that we are not landing Malone. Hope I'm wrong.

Watch it OCI, the crazies will freak out and protest in the streets of VN.

Again, it's not the message it's your delivery. Everyone who talks to anyone knows what you know they just say it in a different way. Its not a secret that Malone is exploring his options.

He did say he was "reading the tea leaves". I don't think he was implying inside info.

Some of the main coaches there, and one of the coaches he has been working with at these camps went to Florida

Timmy, I have been posting UT boards for almost 20 years and my message and delivery has never been an issue with anyone who lives in reality.

In Josh's case, we have a lot of ground to make up if we are to get back into this. It can be done, but it will take time and a lot of hard work.

For those wondering about how he and Hurd's relationship, it is strained at best. Hurd is very outgoing and carefree, while Josh is more cautious and his moves are measured before taking them. They play for opposing teams that are about 5-6 miles apart. That is part of the issue. Then you have the ego side of things where these young men want to be the "alpha dog" in their surroundings.

Pretty clear who the alpha dog is around there. With almost 3400 rushing yards I say Hurd. Sounds a bit jealous. Malone is a stud but that whole thing is a dumb reason not to like someone

I agree with your thinking, but that is how it often plays out. Ego is a big part in these football players lives.

I remember attending a football awards ceremony at the Maxwell House a few years back. Each of those kids, when announced, would walk up to the podium with their chests puffed out and with a strut. I asked my high school coach, who was being honored if i or my team mates acted like that 20 plus years prior to this and he laughed , smiled, and nodded his head yes. You have to be a good amateur psychologist to be a football coach these days.

I realize that and agree. Proud to have Hurd and if I had to pick btw the two I'm taking Hurd everytime. We can find receivers. Backs like Jalen are rare.

This plus, with Jalen, we don't have to worry until he signs his LOI, like we might with others. Jalen is one of our best recruiters, and the fact that he came on board so early in the game to help recruit, speaks volumes about what kind of Vol he will be.

With the way Butch and company have recruited, there aren't many kids I will get upset if we miss on. He has clearly shown we will get our share our big time players no matter what. Would love to have Malone. If he goes else where then no PB&J for him.

Wait...is this like Kiffin's comment about pumping gas??
