'14 TN WR Josh Malone (UT commit 12/4/13)

He likes what he sees from Butch Jones so far but he remembers the same optimism when Dooley was hired. He wants to see results on the field and wants to see if our offense will work in the SEC.

Comparing CBJ's optimism to Dooley's is just plain funny. I don't care who you are.

Man I hate anything that seems negative about us when it comes to Malone. I mean it is smart what the kid is doing or saying about UT, I just don't want to lose this battle. He belongs at UT. I feel like we impress some people during the season, not 12-2 but win a couple games we weren't suppose to. Like the Cocks, Florida or Oregon. You just never know, seems we just need our offense to workout well, which I think it will.

I am hoping that just 1 QB breaks out

Dobbs new film looks awesome. I know it's highschool but the kid has great touch and can sling that freaking pigskin. Had several passes just drop in over the DB. Couple nice runs which he isn't a blazer but made some kids look like fools fo sho

True..but his footwork is just atrocious. Imagine how much more efficient he would be if he just got his steps right. Damn. He also seems to put quite a bit of mustard on the ball relatively easy.

For what it's worth, he said he's not that worried about winning. He just wants to find the place offering the best opportunity for him to maximize his potential.

been watching that new 30-for-30 about 83 draft with elway. His sr year Stanford was 5-6. But everybody was salivating over him and he went first pick (sorta ha)

Looked a lot like Worley's or Peterman's HS film. Ferguson's looked pretty good as well. With Worley having SEC experience and having actually played QB and won a college game, I think he is the odds on favorite to start. The "next guy" is not always the "better guy".

You know, we can compliment one of our incoming quarterbacks without it meaning that we are dissing one of our current ones. It seems that every time someone says somthing positive about any of the QBs sombody else feels like that they have to defend the other ones.

I don't know how you got that from my post? Show me where I said anything about him starting or being practice squad? You can't, nice try.

“really, it’s just a different energy level up there,” said malone, who’s ranked the nation’s no. 102 overall prospect and no. 14 wide receiver in the 247composite, which equally weighs prospect rankings and ratings from major recruiting media outlets.
“it’s like they’ve got momentum right now. If they can keep that momentum, they’ll be all right. It’s a lot more energy. They’re starting to get more of the older players back, and a lot of older players are starting to show a lot more support than they did in the past, so it’s a really different place up there right now.”

“they’ve made me a pretty big priority,” malone said. “they’re showing a lot of interest, that they want me, because i remember, right when the (spring evaluation) period opened up — i think it was (april 15). The first day when it opened up on monday, they had practice that (week), and coach ‘z’ (wide receivers coach zach azzanni) came down that morning.

“he came down to see me, and then he flew back out to go back to practice, so they’ve made me a pretty big priority, showing a lot of interest and showing that they want me. They’ve basically been telling me how they want to use me and all that.”

“really, i talk to coach ‘z’ more often because he’s my position coach, and that’s the guy i’m really going to be playing under, when it gets down to it,” malone said. “me and coach ‘z’ have a good relationship. It’s a real good relationship. He really wants to work with me and help me become a player that i want to become.”

“they’re telling me i can come up there and be an instant impact, and they’re telling me that they’re just going to use me everywhere — move me around — and that’s really about it,” malone said. “i’ve just got to keep checking up on it and keep checking people’s depth charts to see fact from fiction.”

“it’s kind of rough right now, because they really don’t have the pieces right now to run that offense,” he said. “the overall look of the offense was good. They throw the ball. It’s kind of a balanced attack, just how they feed the ball, because the offensive line is going to be stacked. They’ve got, like, three first-rounders on that offensive line, so they shouldn’t have any problem with protection.
“it’s just to see how the product looks on the field, because i really don’t care about wins. I just care about which offense is going to develop me the most and which one i can feel like i’ll get good coaching at and which place i feel comfortable at. It’s really going to come down to where it’s at.”

“i’ve really got to see the offense in action — and especially in the conference that they’re in,” he said. “i’ve got to see how it fits and just see how some of the players on the team, just if they get better, and see if they’re enjoying it up there still.
“i remember the same thing happened when coach dooley was up there his first year. They had a lot of hype, and then that hype really didn’t turn over to wins. We’ve just got to see what happens.”

It was a long, well-written article actually. Those are just most of the quotes from Malone. He also said he has a lot of guys recruiting him to UT, and Emmanuel Smith is recruiting him to Vandy.

Telling him that "You can be the next great wr at Vandy."...

Did anyone pick up the part in the article, where he referred to CZA as "my position coach"? Most of the times when I have seen kids refer to their position coach in that fashion for that team, then that is where they end up. A la Derrick Green and Michigan.

I see that but I think in this context, when theyre talking as in depth as he is thats not quite the case. I just dont think theres anything there a la derrick green. I do think we stand well for him tho, its just the mom we need to worry about.

I worry about this one guys. I'm trying to put myself in his mothers shoes: son loves UT they live in tennessee so she would get to see him play often. Tn is WRU . What would make her want her son at notre dame or any of those other places

I think ya'll are reading too much into it. He's just stating hypothetically that Coach Z would be his coach. Really don't think it means anything.

Noone ever knows what's going on in these kids lives outside of football. While I would love to have Malone a part of this class and a VFL, maybe his situation at home, friends, close influences, make his mother think somewhere away from "home" would be best for the kid. Hope we get him. In the end, parents know best.

I dont think that quote means anything.

And LOL @ Emmanuel Smith trying to recruit him to Vandy. That just sounds funny. I'd laugh if a kid was wasting time trying to convince me to go play football at Vandy.
