really, its just a different energy level up there, said malone, whos ranked the nations no. 102 overall prospect and no. 14 wide receiver in the 247composite, which equally weighs prospect rankings and ratings from major recruiting media outlets.
its like theyve got momentum right now. If they can keep that momentum, theyll be all right. Its a lot more energy. Theyre starting to get more of the older players back, and a lot of older players are starting to show a lot more support than they did in the past, so its a really different place up there right now.
theyve made me a pretty big priority, malone said. theyre showing a lot of interest, that they want me, because i remember, right when the (spring evaluation) period opened up i think it was (april 15). The first day when it opened up on monday, they had practice that (week), and coach z (wide receivers coach zach azzanni) came down that morning.
he came down to see me, and then he flew back out to go back to practice, so theyve made me a pretty big priority, showing a lot of interest and showing that they want me. Theyve basically been telling me how they want to use me and all that.
really, i talk to coach z more often because hes my position coach, and thats the guy im really going to be playing under, when it gets down to it, malone said. me and coach z have a good relationship. Its a real good relationship. He really wants to work with me and help me become a player that i want to become.
theyre telling me i can come up there and be an instant impact, and theyre telling me that theyre just going to use me everywhere move me around and thats really about it, malone said. ive just got to keep checking up on it and keep checking peoples depth charts to see fact from fiction.
its kind of rough right now, because they really dont have the pieces right now to run that offense, he said. the overall look of the offense was good. They throw the ball. Its kind of a balanced attack, just how they feed the ball, because the offensive line is going to be stacked. Theyve got, like, three first-rounders on that offensive line, so they shouldnt have any problem with protection.
its just to see how the product looks on the field, because i really dont care about wins. I just care about which offense is going to develop me the most and which one i can feel like ill get good coaching at and which place i feel comfortable at. Its really going to come down to where its at.
ive really got to see the offense in action and especially in the conference that theyre in, he said. ive got to see how it fits and just see how some of the players on the team, just if they get better, and see if theyre enjoying it up there still.
i remember the same thing happened when coach dooley was up there his first year. They had a lot of hype, and then that hype really didnt turn over to wins. Weve just got to see what happens.
