i will probably be blasted even more than the guy who made the mcfadden comparison but i see hurd as josh gordon if he played rb. both are almost the same size seeing as gordon is 6'3 225 and have similar speed and explosion and seem to be built similarly.

Jeff Gordon IMO.

From the other day:

“I was really happy for Jalen today,” Tennessee wideout Marquez North said. “He was real physical and he was dominant.”

“He still needs to learn how to get the ball north and south” Jones said.

Tennessee center Mack Crowder agrees.

“He did really good. I think he got spooked a few times today. He was hitting some holes,” Crowder told IT. “I was proud of him. He’s working very hard. I think, once again, he just needs to calm down and realize he has the ability to do.”

First college scrimmage ever, first week of any football in 7-8 months after shoulder surgery? I'll take it.

You know it...it's hard not to get excited about these freshman. I'm trying to temper my expectations as there will be growing pains, but I'll be damned if I'm not as excited about Tennessee football as I have been in 10 years!! GBFO!!

Makes 6-6 this year a lot less painful.

Didn't know how many saw this. We've had so much debate about Jalen's height on here. Thought I would share Coach Gillespie's take when answering this question:

Q: He's a legitimate 6-foot-3. Have you ever coached a running back of that size, and maybe what are the challenges of coaching one that tall?

Gillespie: "I don't think there's any challenge. You get what you recruit. He's an athletic kid. He bends. That's why Alabama wanted him. That's why Florida wanted him. That's why Ohio State wanted him. There's no doubt he can play the running back position.

"He's one of the fastest guys on the team in change-of-direction. He bends well. He jumps well. He lifts. He's a talented kid. I don't think you coach anybody any differently. I don't think you coach a 5-foot-10 linebacker any different than you coach A.J. [Johnson]. I just think they get the same teaching. A.J. can bend, the 5-foot-10 guy can bend and you go on.

"I don't think there's a different way you coach him."

Odd feeling that way but it sure does. Knowing what's coming in '15 and beyond takes the sting out of it.

Most people feel that way. Most of us known that sustaining power requires a true foundation. It's what makes winners and losers in everything.

Guess Coach G doesn't think he's too tall to play RB.

Still runs high and whether it's reported or not he's battling with going from a big kid in a small town to a locker-room full of other extremely talented individuals. Most kids go through this transition, but it's a little tougher on Jalen but I believe that him being an EE will help him get over quicker than usual. He only has a few things between his ears that are keeping him from playing at full speed, and when I say "full" I mean wowing onlookers with his exceptional combination of size and speed.

This came from a couple of his team mates, but everyone is behind him and pushing him forward. Personally, I think the battle between Just-P, Lane, Paulk, Scott, Hurd, Hill, and Beck is gonna be a fun one to watch. The chemistry between these guys (on and off the field) is night and day different from last year.

6-6 wouldn't be painful to me at all this year, especially if we can win a bowl game. I imagine a big percentage of the fanbase would be happy with a 7-6 season. Shows we're moving in the right direction.

LOL big kid = too tall for sure. He just needs to get lit up a few times and realize that he can take it and he'll be fine. I remember my first big hit playing linebacker; it was the first time the coaches complimented my play. However, it also felt like I died and came back to life, and thats when I decided basketball and soccer were for me haha.

I think Alden Hill needs to at least be in the conversation for "too tall," as he and Hurd are very close to the same size.

Place big toothy smile emoticon here.

With Jalen that means two extra yards forward....Too tall to be running back...Butch Please! He breaks away for big gains for a reason...the boy is faster than Peter Pan!

This may have already been posted.
“I thought Jalen Hurd really started to run like we expect him to run,” head coach Butch Jones said after Hurd excelled in Friday’s scrimmage. “He still needs to learn how to get the ball north and south. I see our younger players starting to gain confidence in their style of play and our team style of play.”

According to TNSportsRadio, Hurd was the standout player and the MVP on Friday before the Vols broke for spring break this week.

“He is working himself back into football shape and there is a difference,” Jones said. “He hasn’t played football in a year with recovering from the surgery so each day of practice I see him getting better and better. I see the improvement coming but I also see the confidence getting in him as well. He understands what he needs to work on.”
