If he doesn't run lower, he loses leverage. Things can change, and we have a great coach. So, hopefully we can get his pad level lower and keep his shoulder protected

You believe the keep to protecting his shoulders, is to lower his shoulder more while running so that he hits every defender shoulder first?

No, those were 2 different things. He needs to run behind his pads better, and he needs to protect his shoulder. Those are my only concerns with him. His vision, speed, and strength seem fantastic

I'm pretty sure I've read that although he runs high, Jalen has excellent pad leverage for as tall as he is. Was said he does a great job of getting low at the point of contact. I could be remembering wrong though.

His shoulder should be fine. His last injury wasn't cause of contact anyways. Most people would have came out with a shoulder injury if their arm was forcefully pushed the way his was. The kid landed on top of him and his arm was out and pushed past the point it should go.

Maybe its just me, and I am a little slow this morning, but doesn't those seem like contradicting ideals? Lower your shoulder on contact but you need to work on protecting it also.

I'll ask my question again:
Please explain losing leverage if he doesn't run lower and also please explain lower pad level and how it will protect his shoulder. I didn't realize that his shoulder was hurt because someone hit him high, I thought it was hurt when he was on the ground or hit the ground and was piled on by another player.
NEXT QUESTION:
Please explain how one can "run behind his pads". I've been to a lot of games and all the players I've noticed seem to be wearing them on their body. Should he take them off and hold them in front of his body? If he keeps his shoulder pads on his shoulders I'd think they would do more to protect his shoulders from there.

Yall can talk about pad leverage all day, but it's as simple as this:

I feel extremely sorry for the first few people that try to tackle this monster in the open field. You usually dont' see guys that big running that fast, and that slows down a defenders reaction time. He is going to lay the wood this fall, book it.

You are speaking in too much of a positive manner buddy. That won't hold no truck with some posters on here.

Shame on you. Next time try to throw something negative in there (but make sure you say you are just being realistic).

Yall saw what Derrick Henry did, and you all that are talking about everything Jalen does wrong are the same ones that were talking about what he did wrong.. and all he did was take Dee Harts spot in rotation and may start over Yeldon next year (two more prototypical SEC rbs). Jalen may not be as physical at DH, but he's close, and I'd venture to say that he's also faster. Do the math y'all, STOP ALL THE DOWNLOADIN.

But, but ... he's so tall and skinny ... like one of those marathon runners.

"People said that at 6’3” I was too tall and wouldn’t be able to get through the tackles and that I wasn’t tough enough.”
-Eddie George

Then there's always Jim Brown, too. He was an upright runner who some people would say lacked pad leverage. That seemed to work out okay for him though.

Hurd's offer list speaks for itself.....People that are paid for a living to evaluate talent vs a message board poster and poser.

This is what 6'3 at 220lbs running a forty in the 4.4's has looked like in the past.

Hurd is faster for sure, we will see about the physicality.

All I know is that last summer at the Ohio State camp some LB's got ran over so bad they were saying things like "he ain't a running back"

Henry looks thicker than Hurd even tho I think they're pretty similar in weight. Hurd seems faster and shiftier (more shifty? Maybe?) but Henry is more of a bruiser. (Not saying hurd can't punish defenders)

Both will be great RB's for a really long time, IMO.

that will be a great rb matchup down the line. they will be two of the premier backs in the nation. just hope our defense improves to the point where we can actually stop an average running attack, let alone bama's
