'14 TN RB Jalen Hurd (UT commit 3/14/13)

Okay I really don't want to read the 412 pages just to look for an answer but, has anyone hurd anything about Hurd and how he's doing a UT right now? If i'm not mistaken it's just workouts right now, but any insight on just how good this guy is?

He's looked quick, he runs high, but he is our quickest tailback already. I'm as excited as anyone to see him play because his potential is off the charts, I've just tempered my expectations so that no matter what he does, it's a positive

That's awesome because I was able to see him play when he was in the state at TTU (where I attend college) and he was good. I know people worry about his size but I mean does it really make that much of a difference with him?

If he doesn't run lower, he loses leverage. Things can change, and we have a great coach. So, hopefully we can get his pad level lower and keep his shoulder protected

Shoulder injuries have a tendency to re-occur and linger. That is the problem...and the problem is greatly magnified by the fact that Hurd will have a hard time deflecting and minimizing contact due to his unconventional height.

I think it does. He can't change the fact that he's 6'3" or 6'4" or whatever. His pad level is always going to be higher than someone who is 5'10". He's going to take a beating in SEC play and, if he can handle it, he's going to be a special player.

The kid has unusual long speed for someone his size and he continues to get bigger and stronger. He could be unlike anything we've ever seen in the backfield at UT. I don't know about his 40 time but I bet the kid can run a 60 yard dash as fast as anyone else on the team at this point.

I look forward to seeing how Butch and Coach Jake use him. I expect to see 150 or so touches his first year. I don't expect all of those will come with him lining up in the backfield.

Didn't he finish the Station Camp game with a torn labrum?

Sounds like Jalen didn't pick up the phone when USC called and there are some hurt feelings.

I haven't seen much of that chatter. I think most are assuming the majority roster spots are up for grabs for a team coming off of a sub-.500 season.

We hope for the first option, but thinking about it logically, he's had 2 surgeries on the same shoulder twice, they've had to go in and surgically reinforce the shoulder because of the damage. And that's scary with any RB. If he injures that shoulder again, his career is probably done.

Hopefully he never has an issue, but even analysts and mods have said that the shoulder is cause for concern.

It was a positive thing but he is gonna try to spin it as a bad thing.
That's why they shut it down and he skipped his senior season.

There's a ton of video on him in the Highlights Sticky at the top of the page, including a clip of him running that 4.37.

nothing changed. he runs with good leverage in traffic. he doesn't raise up until he hits 5th gear, streaking down the field

Please explain losing leverage if he doesn't run lower and also please explain lower pad level and how it will protect his shoulder. I didn't realize that his shoulder was hurt because someone hit him high, I thought it was hurt when he was on the ground or hit the ground and was piled on by another player.

PAD LEVEL is set to be the most overused whip term on this board...until Jalen gets carries in the Fall...bet it disappears like QVol81 by then...:thumbsup:
