'14 TN RB Jalen Hurd (UT commit 3/14/13)

Talks about him, TKjr, and Wharton recruiting other recruits, how he likes Coach Gillespie, along with the whole staff. And here's the last paragraph.

“Man, everybody in my town has gone crazy, because everyone’s a UT fan, so it was amazing,” he said.

“I really knew they were going to go crazy once I committed to UT, because everyone wanted me to. And just with the old coaching staff, I didn’t really get the vibe — or, really, nowhere close to the vibe — that I do with this new staff, so I knew when I was going to finally commit to UT after I fell in love, everyone was going to go crazy because that’s where the fans wanted me to go the whole time.”

In recruiting analysts eyes, Tennessee competition isn't as high as Florida, Texas, Ohio, Georgia, Lousiana, etc. Doesn't matter who they play this year. Tennessee talent is looked down upon.

And I never said he'd outgrow his position. I think he'll play RB here, but the speculation on Jalen moving to WR is one of the questions analysts have.

Which is surprising because the Rutherford country district is the 6th hardest in the country. That's right outside of Nashville.

And just like Inky said in his book, it doesn't matter how many stars you have, it's how you do on the field.

I should also add that Tennessee's talent is, in fact, severely underrated every year. Since 2004, Tennessee is 6-3 in the TN/GA All Star Game. While that game doesn't usually include the most elite prospects, it is still indicative that we aren't as awful with HS talent as some would claim.

Against middle TN schools. LF is from the 7th ward in New Orleans and does the same thing.

You're funny!

Leonard Fournette is only ranked higher because his body is closer to a prototypical back than Hurds is. Period.

Competition?

Fournette's high school football program (St. Augustine) is ranked 481 in the nation.

St. Augustine High School (New Orleans, LA) 2012 Football Schedule

Hurd's high school football program (Beech) is ranked 130 in the nation.

Beech High School (Hendersonville, TN) 2012 Football Schedule

They both play strong teams and they both play weak teams, but to assume that Fournette plays on a better football team because he's located in the "hood", give me a effin break! Beech played several teams that were almost completely composed of minorities (if that's the point that you're trying to make), and guess what - they whooped the sh!t out of them (just ask Jackson Northside).
They're team when 9-4, Beech went 15-0. Also, Hurd rushed for about 1000 more yards.

Oh, and for furture reference, Fournette's high school - St. Augustine - is a preppy, private Christian school.

Be glad that we have Hurd, and I do believe that you just got Butch slapped!

Is there anyway we can get this post stickied? I think this puts it all to rest now. Yes LF is a tremendous RB, but he plays against inferior competition in an all Catholic league. Hurd is a beast. The end.

Plus Hurd only played in 12 of 15 games. He would have had well over 4k in yards and over 50 tds.I dont care if its peewee football.Thats a mans stat line.Hes a junior in Hs.and already being compared to Bo and Her Walker. If he stays healthy skys the limit.

So, whats the big deal with his height? Derrick Henry who signed with Bama was 6'3 246lbs. Buddy of mine that is in the AD with Bama said Henry will get alot of carries this year at RB. Said his agility at that size is insane.

Hurd looks a little thin to be 240lbs like Espn list him as, but if he hits the weights and put on a little bit more mass, hes the same mold of a back as Henry is. Punishing back with agility and speed.

Besides, most players heights are not exact.

And if this kid is ALL VOL, then I could care less about what other people outside of Volnation think about him and the position he "MAY" end up playing. The kid is a running back and makes it look easy.

All you have to do is watch Hurd's tape to see he is a running back all the way. I don't care how tall he is as long as he doesn't pass 6'4" anyway. The kid is a natural the way he runs with patience, sets up his blocks and then turns on the speed. I see no way he isn't a 5* soon but regardless he is the most exciting looking RB prospect we've had in quite a while.

Scout.com just posted an article talking about how Jalen Hurd and TKJR are selling Tennessee to recruits. Anyone know what it says?

Holy ****, I said that there's 1 RB in the nation that's better than Hurd and the whole board goes ape****. I'm not flaming Hurd at all. I don't care what stats you throw at me, I think Fournette is better and is the ONLY back that's better in this class (Hurd and Rock are 2a 2b imo, Michael 3rd). That's my opinion and i'll own it.

It's cool. You're entitled to your opinion. The stats just prove you horribly wrong.

Only things holding him back from being the #1 prospect in the country are his height and level of competition at Beech.. Sites are afraid he will grow out of the position, and know he isn't playing against the best highschools like a lot of backs in fl, ga, tx, etc.

Idk about all of that....Hurd is great and will prove to be a great RB, but I bet Leonard Fournette could give him a run for his money

Edit: Well after seeing what happened in the post above, I guess I know what's coming

1. Not the point I was making at all, the point I was making is that HS football in LA is better than it is in TN

2. If i'm getting Butch slapped for thinking that there's only 1 RB in the nation that's better than Hurd (#1 ovr according to scout), then yes, I guess i got Butch slapped.
