But, any news on Mr. Jalen Hurd? I would love to have this RB (not db) on our team so that we can bring #7 back to K-Ville.

I attend LH, went to Beech, and know Jalen. He's getting plenty of pressure from everywhere to give the Vols a strong look, trust me.

The youth pastor (one of them) is the former team chaplain under Fulmer and his son is currently in school and involved with the FB team. His other son plays on the HS team with Jalen.

As I said, Jalen is hearing plenty about the Vols, but we need to show some progress this fall.

Pastor Dave is a huge Vols fan, but he would never utilize his position to pressure anyone or influence anyone in a particular direction regarding a school choice.

He did cash some NFL checks though.

Yes indeed, with the Jets. But he had a under achieving college career given his billing/ranking coming out of HS. was never the best wr on his own team. Best year had less than 50 catches and about 800 yds. But he played on Sundays .... And Thursdays and Mondays .....

Was a heisman contender before his senior season started i think, injuries had alot to do with his issues. He wasn't a bust though.

Riggs did have 1 1,000 yd season but never reached his potential. Same with Turner - never got near his ceiling based on how he was evaluated coming out of HS. Hate to call any kid a bust but ....

Riggs might have not reached his ceiling, but that doesn't mean he was a flat out bust. Imo of course.

I had knee surgery a couple of weeks ago and I'm now in the rehab process. I was doing some table stretching and icing when who should walk in and take the table next to mine but Jalen Hurd, who's having his shoulder worked on. So I get to eavesdrop on a 15 minute conversation between the PT and Jalen about his recent visit to UT.

Jalen really likes CBJ. Said he was the favorite of all the coaches he's met thus far. Had lots of positive things to say about CBJ and the staff. Thinks he'll get it done eventually.

His biggest concern is the exodus of offensive talent off this year's team. Doesn't want to be on the ground floor of a total rebuild. He didn't say anything specific about wins and losses, but he did say that he wanted to see what sort of tools UT had on offense, since we are replacing several key positions. I got the sense that if the O is good or better, it will give us a good shot at him. If they struggle next year, we'll have a hard time landing him.

It is a valid point, 2014 will be tougher than this year for CBJ unless we can get some big time jucos and high quality ee's that can step in immediately in next year's class. Is Hurd thinking about being an ee?

Agree I was referring to Jeff L.

You guys need to stop using names which is why I said preacher. Also these guys are about as down to earth country boys as thru get and they wear the orange pride on their sleeves...which isn't wrong. I was playing ball at first Baptist yesterday with another staff member of Lh....we were playing some candy alum and we were ragging on their school.

yes there have been you would look good in orange comments already. its not a bad thing though.

you gotta remember guys bama is the devil.

If by some miracle Tiny came back the starting OL would be ok. Not great but not like the 2009 OL. The DL is another story.

The OL would have Tiny (although doubtful), Mack Crowder, Marcus Jackson, Kyler Kerbyson and Alan Posey or Austin Sanders as likely starters. Outside of those 5-6 we're really hurting. I don't expect anything out of Marques Pair but maybe he'll finally decide to work. Wiesman will work his butt off to get ready so he should be able to help. Looks to be an easy sell to get a few good OL and DL juco's but I thought the same thing at RB and DL last year.

I am sort of confused about some of these comments about we are going to have to wait and see how they do in the fall. If you are a VFL then go for it. Otherwise, move on and lets find a quality running back that wants to be at UT.

UT is not going to get better when we have kids who proclaim to have orange blood saying well, I will have to see. The other schools in the SEC have loyal kids that would go to their school regardless of the record. Bama was getting quality recruits when they were going 3-8. Auburn just had a horrible season and they are getting player. Why no loyality to UT? There is no hope if kids who grew up orange have no loyalty to the orange.

There is so much wrong with this post...I don't know where to start!

So, if we offer someone a scholarship and they don't commit on the spot we should pull the offer and move on to the next guy? That's the strategy you're proposing? We would end up being the worst team in the country if we did that.

DOUBLE WOW!!!

These are 16-17 y/o kids your talking about. They didn't grow up listening to John Ward or even see Tennessee in the glory days. The last time we won a NC these kids were just born and we have rarely even been in the national conversation since. Yes Auburn had a terrible season but their only 2 years removed from a NC. Alabama struggled recruiting during their down years just like everyone that isn't winning. During their worst run they had the classes of 30, 49, 24 and 18. They didn't break the top 10 recruiting until Saban was hired. There are kids like Austin Sanders, Jason Carr, Josh Smith and Jalen Reeves-Maybin that love Tennessee and bleed orange but with several bad years on the field and a coach that didn't work the state there just aren't that many D-1 players that have "grown up orange" as you put it.
