You don't "break the bank" by bringing together a coalition of monied interests just to sign James Franklin. They have much bigger targets in their sights than him.

Hurd went off last night against a good D. He puts on a show everytime he touches the ball. He should be very highly ranked next season. We need him in orange for the 2014 class

His team beat the teams that were on his schedule. Who did we beat?

I watch this guy take his team into battle and watch them go toe-to-toe with the best teams in the country and play them to the bitter end.

Vanderbilt does not have near the talent that Tennessee has and this guy has an unbelievable recruiting class coming into Vanderbilt.


Forget your hate and disdain for Vanderbilt. This guy is the real deal and the true rising star in the college coaching world.

Uhm we went toe to toe with several big time teams this year and we still fired our coach. Franklin is a great motivator and a recruiter but not a great coach. The only decent team vandy has beat this year is Ole Miss and he's not exactly playing with the worst talent, he probably has Vandy's best team since Cutler was there talent wise and only a few playmakers were recruited by Franklin.

I've always liked Vandy. Franklin has beat no team with a winning record. He has potential to be great someday, but far from a rising star. Unbelievable class is a stretch. Let's see how they sign before you crown the class of the century.

Hurd was awarded with the Division II Class AAA Mr. Football for backs today which is basically the high school heisman.

Hurd is quoted in the CTFP saying that "UT can not sell it's past success" to players his age. Another kid was quoted as saying that "he would play wherever Gruden told him to". It is clear that the kids did not like Dooley. They said he came off as arrogant. Can't link from mobile. Good read. Insight on in-state kids and their collective disdain for all things UT.

I just don't get how Tennessee can't sell their past successes......but Jon Gruden (SB in 2002, Hurd would have been.....uh......seven) can.

because Gruden is on TV every Monday.

He does the QB interview segment before every draft.

its an easy sell

One of my son's teachers is the mother of a young man (Dominique Dawson) from what I have been told will be going to UT to play baseball and this kid loves UT. Dominique also plays QB for his HS FB team as well. He is a better CB though IMO. He also played FB ball with Von Bell as well growing up.

Dominique was baby in the late 90's but his family has aways told him how great UT is and how he should try to make it even better. He has grown up in a VOL family so it may be different for him.

UT's relevancy dwindled after 2005, well after Gruden's SB. At any rate, kids see the guy on TV almost everyday. Gruden's resume is plastered all over the place, too. It's an easy sell to recruits.

Funny story related to Hurd...A coach from FSU came in to Beech earlier this week. He told the lady working in the office who he was and why he was there..blah blah. She picks up the phone and says "Yeah, the coach from Florida is here to see Jalen...". The coach almost jumped over the desk..."NO NO NO...Florida STATE!!!!".:birgits_giggle:

Coaches from Ohio St. and Ole Miss are there visiting today.FWIW

It was the offensive coordinator - Coach Pease- from the Univeristy of Florida. Not Florida State.

Hurd took his first carry of the night in the state championship 38 yards to the house for six points.
