Carlos Hyde would be considered a big back by most (he's 6'1" 235 and was originally recruited as a FB; 970 RuYDs this year, 16 TDs in 10 games). Meyer has also declared recently that Jordan Hall will be moved to the Slot, and so Rod Smith (6'3" 228), and Bri'onte Dunn (6'1" 215) will likely be the #2 and #3 RBs on the depth chart next year. OSU is going to have a slot-back (ala Harvin) that'll be small/speedy that operates out wide (and gets the occasional carry), but it's looking like they'll continue to use a more traditional RB at the true RB position. That film of a big rb playing in Urbans system is going to be conspicuously missing. Crabtree will notice this.
A Trooper or a similar elite recruiter type hire is UT's most realistic shot. It's pretty much now or never R.Neal is gone after this year, and we need to land a big one.
So when you say now or never how do you known. I don't claim to know what cbj needs to do, should do, or how or when he should do it. I would respectfully ask how do you know it is now or never?
So you are implying that Butch has a solid history with big rbs?
I'm saying it as a sense of urgency, and I say "now" as 2014 class. We have struck out for impact Rb's two classes in a row. Everyone would agree that Hurd would fit the mold and fill the need.
I'm not an insider, but in that regard I do pass along information that I hear similar to every other poster.
Regardless of Jay, I think for us to get Jalen, bUTch is going to have to show that he can recruit good O-Lineman and other weapons around him in this class. He's made it public that having a good supporting cast is one of his main deciding factors. And obviously whoever the new runningbacks coach and how their relationship progresses is going to be a big factor also.
So you are saying that the RB in the last 2classes are complete busts and My question is how do you know? I think we should hold judgement on these vols . Please understand I want the VOLS to win a NC. I don't think you can say without a doubt that one RB coach hire can make or break anything.
We matched it, Jay rolled out. Doesn't matter anyways. We need a big hire. Luckily, we have time to make up ground with Hurd.
The new title was important career-wise as well. From what I understand, if not for Jay, this class could have easily bottomed-out when our last fearless leader flat quit on this team.
We do have time to make up ground, and that is good.
PS - I'm a Clarksville native myself. Andy Kelly was the QB though last time I lived there.
