Its more than not attending their University. The alums do not consider themselves common folk and do not identify with the "fans". The non alum fans associate with Vandy for some kind of status that they think makes them a better fan because they believe Vandy is an elite educational facility. They make remarks about UT's athletes being dumb and/or criminals and have pictures of Vandy helments that say things like "brains included". But, they are no more "Vandy material" than the average Mississippi State fan. Thats why I say snobbery by proxy. jmo

Really I know what you're talking about. My wife has a few relatives in the Nashville area that pull for Vandy and they went to community colleges and to MTSU but for some reason they decided to start pulling for Candy. I have always given them a hard time about Vandy and it's funny they have said very little about the past two years because they feel it's not going to last long. In fact last year they said that J. Frank wouldn't stay long so they wasn't getting their hopes up about Vandy being good much longer. They were correct about J. Frank. I think they get free tickets to some of the games so that's another reason to pull for them.

This is my experience minus the humility. The ones I know are absurdly obnoxious. Also, I was more inclined to root for them prior to JF and still do in other sports. I dont know what that says about me, but I doubt I ever return to pulling for them unless there is a direct benefit to us.

His film is unimpressive, his stats were awful. I see the potential there, but I also see the point of people that say he's not special.

I think he can be good, but he has some work to do.

A difference maker doesn't have to have stats. I get frustrated at people that really think they know football but only judge it by stats. A great DT is one that demands double teams to negate an offensive lineman to get to the middle with multiple blocks. The great ones show up because there is an equal DT next to him that reduces the double team. Sawyers was double teamed and teams ran away from him in games. I want this guy....he is nasty....we need nasty.

Great DTs beat double teams routinely in high school. There is zero debating that about an elite high school player.

The part people are missing here is this kid was playing hurt. I hate his stats but give him a pass due to his injury

Vandy fans have no room to talk on who we are losing. In short, we lost our line on both sides of the ball, 2 LBs, starting RB, and our specialist who did all 3 phases.

Vandy is losing Carta-Samuels, Wesley Tate, starting FB, Krause and Matthews (which was probably about 85% of their receiving), starting LT, their K, starting DE and DT, 2 starting LBs, both CBs, and both safety's....

Just did the math and Krause and Matthews were 74% of their receiving. Huge loss in production.

Let's sum up all the Vandy talk in this thread in a few words...our 2014 class that we sign on Wednesday would be able to beat them this coming year. Enough said...now, moving on to more important things.

More unbelievable arrogance from west end:

"ut has very little returning. There is a real possibility they may have to endure a 2-9 season.

ut might end up wishing for a 4 win season when it's over. They really have hit the skids.

I almost feel sorry for them."

This is from a vondy poster with more than 10,000 entries. These people are actually crazy, it's confirmed.:loco:

but I'm curious to know how he can be /unimpressive/ on video and yet have the potential to be good in the SEC. As someone said above, if you are a good/very good high school defensive tackle, or player at any position, you will show it on tape and you will beat double teams--we're talking high school here. I assume he's shown something or there wouldn't be interest.

Not sure but I think most of this comes from his measurable speed/strength/size stuff. Jmo

Very little returning?

All of our WR's, with the possibility of our new signees being better than everyone who started last year (North gets the benefit of the doubt, but who knows?)

All of our QB's... someone has to improve.

2nd string, and arguably better RB in Marlin Lane

All of our tightends... signees will be better hopefully.

Our leading tackler, and leader of the defense in AJ Johnson.

One of our best playmakers who did not even play last year, Curt Maggitt

The entire secondary, with likely improvements signed in this class.

... seems legit.

They're talking about OL and DL, I'm sure.

You're right that's a huge loss. Their entire WR corp returning has a combined 22 catches and that's 7 scholarship guys. One of those Receivers is responsible for 14-15 of the catches. They also return the same two RBs that finished last in the SEC in rushing. They have no reason to throw stones right now. It will be a serious wake up call this year.

"Very little returning."

But they neglect Vandy has that same problem, but significantly worse.

I'm not taking pansybilt's side cause I loathe those guys. But, we only have 11 starters returning (tied for the fewest in the SEC) and UT is the only team in the country that doesn't return at least 1 starter from the OL and DL. Thats probably what that delusional arse is referencing.

What the idiot is wishfully hoping isn't true is that our QB situation will be much better, as will our RBs, WRs, TEs, LBs and DBs.

On the other hand, those wusses are losing virtually their entire offense in Matthews, a sr starting QB, some key OLs, their second best WR, their best pass rushing DE and 2 NFL ready DBs in Ladler and Hal.
