'14 TN DT Michael Sawyers (UT Signee 2/5/14)

I don't think he had a plan. IMO Tennessee recruits itself for the most part. To not be a contender for a top 10-15 type recruiting class you have to almost try to flop. He did land some quality recruits in his time at UT, just did not develop them much if at all. IMO he was given at least 1 year more than he should have got looking back at it. Dools knew no matter what happened he was due a huge buyout when he left UT. I really think he was happy to go and would have left sooner if Hart would have had the nerve to pull the trigger. CBJ has EVERYTHING at UT headed in the right direction. Kids are developing. Kids are making the grades. Kids are staying out of trouble. And the staff is working like nothing in their life matters except for Tennessee football and getting it back to winning and being an elite SEC program. Better days ahead.

Agreed. I think Dooley realized he was in over his head and would have been glad to go after the UK loss. Hart should have Kiffined him before he got on the bus. That extra year of Dooley probably set us back at least two years due to his lack of recruiting and inability to build relationships and develop players. Not to mention his ineptitude as a coach.

Excited to find out if we get this guy. Getting Adoree Jackson would have been super fun. But if we end up with a surprise in state behemoth at defensive tackle, that we happened to steal from Vanderbilt, that might be even more fun. The need on the DL is much greater in my opinion.

If we finish with the guys we have committed (including Thomas), and add Sawyers... I think we are setting ourselves up for a bright future in the orange trenches the next few years.

Funny how my opinion on this guy has changed within a week. I was hung-up on waiting for Adoree to announce but thankfully he wont' leave us hanging. Now we can focus on adding Sawyers this weekend and then we can all just sit back, sip on our coffee or other select beverages and watch the fax cam next week... Ah sounds good.

Apparently Derek Mason hired a guy today to hold down the chair in the football office to watch their fax machine on NSD.

I'd add that his personality and attitude did not equate at all to what you need to be a good recruiter. He came across at least to me as very standoffish and was horrible at not only developing relationships in the state, but totally ruining some of them. He de-valued his product time and time again by things he would say publicly about how hard it is to recruit to Tennessee, etc...

Totally agree. He tried the whole "run the program like a CEO" that Saban does, but he didn't have anywhere near the coaching ability or eye for talent that Saban has. He didn't have the respect of his coaches or players. He hardly had any long term plan for developing relationships with high schools in Tennessee that were producing talent that could have built depth. He made a few splashes on the trail (Da'Rick, Hunter, CP) but other than that, he never really provided UT with anything long lasting other than a financial burden and an under-developed roster. Could have saved a few million and had freakin' Kippy Brown coaching and had the same results.

From what I read, no in home by head coach and no official are the requirements. Assistants can visit and they still are eligible.

Can someone give me short and sweet on what a blue shirt requirement is and when they enroll and get their scholly and whar class it counts toward

The early enrollees are already doing hospital visits and were involved in a Special Olympics project. A great way to get them started and from the photos they really got into it. This type publicity will really impress parents.

Instead of signing a LOI on NSD they just show up on campus in summer/fall camp and the first day they begin to practice they are put on scholarship. And as long as it's after May 1 (I think that's the date) they are counted for the next class. So if a 2014 kid does this, shows up in July, he will be put on scholarship like everyone else but it will count for 2015 class, not 2014.

The requirement is that they couldn't have been "recruited". Biggest points being they couldn't have had an visit from the head coach or taken an OV. But they can take UOV's.

That would surprise me if its only the head coach.

I would assume a school having any off campus contact would make that kid a recruited player. At least logic says that anyway but who knows with the NCAA

That would be a very tough rule. Imagine if an SEC coach visits a HS to check out/recruit a 4 star RB. During the conversation a teammate walks up and starts talking with the coach. Once practice starts the coach realizes the kid who came up and talked to him has serious skills. The kid holds no offers and it's 2 months till NSD. Could the recruit not be signed as a BS now as a coach has had contact with him? I'd sure hope he could.

Sticky?

That wouldn't be classified a contact. That is just a "bump".

A contact would be an intentional meeting about recruiting

Correct, it's not only the head coach:

13.02.13.1 Recruited Prospective Student-Athlete.
Actions by staff members or athletics representatives that cause a prospective student-athlete to become a recruited prospective student-athlete at that institution are:

(a) Providing the prospective student-athlete with an official visit;

(b) Having an arranged, in-person, off-campus encounter with the prospective student-athlete or the prospective student-athlete’s parents, relatives or legal guardians;

(c) Initiating or arranging a telephone contact with the prospective student-athlete, the prospective student-
athlete’s relatives or legal guardians on more than one occasion for the purpose of recruitment; or

(d) Issuing a National Letter of Intent or the institution’s written offer of athletically related financial aid to the prospective student-athlete. Issuing a written offer of athletically related financial aid to a prospective student-athlete to attend a summer session prior to full-time enrollment does not cause the prospective student-athlete to become recruited.

Thanks.

It didn't make any sense to just be the head coach

Sawyers wouldn't qualify for blue shirt and not one you take chance with. Too many schools to fight off for a 4 star DT. Plus he is taking an official and we have visted him.

Robertson qualifies since we haven't been in his house and he has just shown up to campus for unofficials to visit jalen. Robertson may be only one that could pull off blue shirt.

Here is something that works for me.....not caring how the numbers work out but assuming they will. Jones gets paid 3 million to figure it out. It isn't a part of recruiting that is fun for me. I'm not getting paid therefore I don't worry about it.
