This. It got little coverage for two reasons IMO...

1) Vandy alums were heavily involved in the case. Prosecutors, Judges, etc... None of them probably had a desire to expose and make their alma mater look bad.

and

2) ESPN is like the national enquirer, they only care about shock value and ratings. Since Vandy isn't big-time and exposing them wont bring them more ratings and attention they conveniently chose to pretty much ignore the story. If it were a big name program where this had happened no doubt ESPN and the entire media would have camped out, probably hired their own legal team to try the case on their own and would still be talking about it every 5 minutes.

Agreed. They are waiting to pounce if he takes a high profile job.

Relative to Vandy's utter feckless and ridiculously awful history of football, he has done a good job.

This year he was dealt an incredibly fortunate hand given when he played Georgia and Florida and that our team was pathetically bad throwing the football and handed them the game.

Also, had to convert a 4th and 12 in the 4th at home to win coming from behind to awful Wake Forest team, barely beat a pathetic UMass team.... and blownout by a combined 142-77 score vs the 3 best teams on their schedule. Yes he did a good job, but a good bit was smoke and mirrors.

+1 for use of "feckless". Bravo, sir.

Franklin is an very good coach that has benefited from an even better staff...more so than when he played this team or that, or what era of SEC East football he's coaching in, the job he's done at Vandy is unheralded. That's why you see his name in contention for so many jobs.

Personally, I think he's a douchebag. He's flippant towards media members who ask pointed questions and has often conducted himself as an egomaniacal little girl when things don't go his way, on the field and off.

However, if you asked me if I would take a coach with that personality, provided he produced the same results that haven't been seen in the program in 100 years...I wouldn't hesitate, sign him up.

He's still a b****, though.

Vandy coaches have started following penn state commits on twitter.... CBJ needs to steal this kid if Franklin leaves.

Think this kid went out of his way to trash the coaches. If he can play he can play, but with numbers being where they are id rather them take a better kid.

Dead on post. It is simpy astounding how this case got almost ZERO national media coverage.

If he doesnt end up at Vandy I bet he ends up at one of the other traditional SEC doormats. Because of the need at DT I wouldn't mind him being a Vol but you have to think he ruined any chance he had of being a Vol with the way he publicly trashed our coaches time and time again after his Vandy commitment.

Especially with us now in play for Garnett. I really like our chances of picking up another DT!

Yep definitely would be nice to land another DT. If Sawyers is the one, it would be better than none I suppose.

Like you, I'd rather have Evans or Garnett tho.

Mizzou fans want him badly.

Well I could see that. Their recruiting class is very subpar up to this point. He'd actually be one of their better commimtments.

Montrell, what is your opinion on Wilbon, the rb? I know Hubbs has said we could potentially contact him.

I heard from a Notre Dame fan they are trying to get him set up for a visit over the next couple of weekends. They are in position to take Sawyers, especially with the uncertainty around McKenzie's admittance into the school.

That's why you don't "step on toes" until you secure what you want. I learned this after starting the legal profession. Even when you are dealing with adversaries, if you do it in a professional and courteous manner, there comes a time where it helps you.

I'm surprised a school that recruits nationally like ND would even be interested in him. I could see Mizzou like the OP mentioned but other than that I was thinking along the lines of Vandy, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Miss State type of schools being his remaining options.

I was a little surprised to hear this as well. His $hit talking about UT aside, I am indifferent about even taking the kid anyways. Heck I don't even know that Ole Miss would want him the way they are recruiting currently. It may just be a fall back option for ND if they miss on some other kids, but the guy I spoke with follows recruiting pretty closely and seemed excited about potentially flipping him.

The kid may be very content sticking with candy. Not all recruits will jump ship just because jf did. IMO candy may very well hire a good coach. If the reports are accurate they were giving jf 3.5mil+ a year, a lot of big name/proven winning coaches may listen to what they have to say.

Is UT going after Sawyers?

Based on what I'm hearing the answer is yes. I'll have more on this later today.
