There is no logical answer because there is no legitimate, scientific research or study that will show you that marijuana is a gateway drug. There is nothing in marijuana that makes one more likely to use hard drugs. If there is a "gateway effect" it is likely only because it is illegal. Since most people have to purchase bud from a dealer they are exposed to drugs they wouldn't be exposed to if they could purchase it from the store like they do the much more harmful drugs alcohol and tobacco. With increased exposure comes a higher likelihood that one will partake. If one is concerned about marijuana being a gateway drug, the most logical thing to do is legalize and regulate it. Aside from this, most "studies" that conclude it's a gateway drug are based on asking users of hard drugs if they've used marijuana. Most have, but the same could be said of alcohol, tobacco, or even cheeseburgers. The leap in logic necessary to conclude bud is a gateway drug is monumental to say the least.
