Looking for thoughts here on Recruiting / Rankings etc. Why is Derek Barnett farther along than all other DL more highly coveted him? Why is this guy soo good? We all were excited by pulling Barnett and Sawyers late, but not sure any of us though he was the future star of this defense.

Barnett was highly ranked. He had broken his hand and, thus, wasn't able to participate in the big HS event he was invited to participate in. Barnett may have blown up there and gotten a significant bump in the rankings. That said, he wasn't some 2 or 3* diamond in the rough. He was a 4* with a huge offer list. The thing that excites me is that Butcher and Barnett seem to be cut from the same cloth although Butcher is smaller. They're similarly ranked and the reviews of each are similar.

Yeah Maggitt has got to stay at DE. We'll have the best tandem in the country next year.
We have the best tandem, statistically, now. Barnett got his 10th sack tonight, and Maggitt his 11th. That gives us two of the top five in the conference.

However, I can see them ask Maggitt to move to MLB for his leadership, and let Weatherd and Dillon Bates take over his OLB role. Weatherd is a pass-rushing fiend, too.

Weathered got 2.5 sacks in extremely limited playing time, which is impressive. I think he'll start at OLB next year if we're in a 4-3 scheme and should see increased reps in the bowl game. He's explosive on 3rd downs.

Where does Big Charles play next year? Dude is massive and hopefully getting in shape now that he's off crutches? I'd really like to see him on the O-Line opposite of Marcus Jackson. However, he could add crucial DT depth too.

EDIT:
Big Charles announced last month he'll be ready for the Spring Game and likely get a shot at an OL spot.

Maggitt won't be here next year so take him out of mix.

If he comes out early, he might be a mid to late round pick. If he stays another year and has the type of season that he had the last half of this season, he will be a first round pick. Huge difference in pay off.

There was a tweet in football forum thread from vq saying maggit will be back next year and he has no plans to explore his NFL options...from interview with curt last night after game

If Hendrix comes on next year we may see Maggit move to MLB for his Sr year which would fill a huge hole in our D right now IMO.

He played some LB last night and didn't look great in space. Dude is a pure pass rusher though. I think he'd make a great edge rusher in the 3-4 for the Steelers or Ravens.

Maggitt won't be here next year so take him out of mix....in my opinion
FYP. Funny how so many people here conveniently forget to convey that statements of opinion are actually that. They like to, instead, imply that it is FACT...when it couldn't be further from it.

Maggitt has come on strong in the past few games, and that has improved his numbers, but for most of the year, he wasn't having the sort of impact most of us expected he would.

His sack number of 11, now is good enough to bump his stock up a bit, but if he wants to be an early round selection, then he probably needs to continue having the type of production he's been having late this season.

Same thing was the case with AJ Johnson last year. He would have been drafted, but probably in the later rounds. Until this rape allegation, he was looking like a 1st-2nd Rd pick.

Let JRM handle calls.

Maggit is right where he needs to be..Reeves-Maybin and Johnson along with Bates as another option fit the MLB spot much better IMO..Just glad to see DL depth at a point where fans can pose scenarios about player placement..It seems like it's been a while since that has been the case

Bates JJ Bryant we'll have plenty of options at MLB. No need to move our sack leader off his DE spot.

I don't know why everyone wants to move Maggitt. It would be doing a huge disservice to him and our defense. He has much better instincts at DE.

It's a Tennessee medical condition...if we have a player redefining a position WE HAVE TO MOVE HIM...call it Leonard Little Syndrome.

Volnation loves players changing positions.. So far we have these brilliant ideas

Maggitt MLB-
McNeil-LB-
Croom-TE
Mosley-RT

No evidence that there's moves would be considered

Moving Maggitt to MLB would be beyond absurd. He's finally developed into the monster pass rusher we thought he would be when he signed back in 2010. That's crazy talk, especially when he is one half of the best returning DE tandem in the country.
