"Coach Elder saw my film a while ago and he said he liked it and I've been in contact with him the past couple of days talking about the school and tradition and he just offered me," Barnett said. "They were recruiting me when they were at Cincinnati so I thought it was pretty cool."
"I called him and I was talking to him and he told me he had some good news for me and he offered me and told me I was a good player and stuff like that," Barnett said. "I was kind of surprised because they didn't offer me at Cincinnati but when they offered me I was kind of shocked."
Barnett was in attendance in 2011 when the Vols hosted LSU and came away impressed with the environment he encountered in Knoxville.
"It was hype. The fans are crazy. It was a good crowd to be around and it was a good game. I really enjoyed it. I can see myself playing there," Barnett said.
With offers already from Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State and Duke, Barnett said coaches are telling him he can play on either side of the ball once he gets to college.
"At tight end, they say I'm a good blocker and I have good hands and they say I can catch the ball and run with it because I'm big," Barnett said. "Then, on defense, the like how I run ball carriers down from behind. I think they like my mobility because I'm a big guy."
"Coach Elder said he wants to get the first shot with me at tight end because the other coaches want me at defense. I don't care though, I think I can play wherever," Barnett said.
