'14 TN DB Rashaan Gaulden (UT Signee 2/5/14)

Unlike many of the teams recruiting him, Tennessee has expressed interest in playing Gaulden at cornerback rather than safety. “They’re talking strictly corner for me,” he said. “If that doesn’t go well, you know, they can always put me at safety. But they really like me, on my frame, as a cornerback, so we’ll see where that goes. That’s fine (with me). Like I said, I feel like I’m an athlete. I play the wide-receiver position here (in high school). I can play the cornerback position. I can play the safety position. It’s all about the love for the game.”

It won’t be long, Gaulden said, before he’s ready to narrow the list of teams he’s considering. “By the summer, I’m trying to trim that list down very low so I can get ready to commit pretty soon — probably before the end of the summer,” he said.

He wants to visit S.Carolina and Florida St. too.

His Brentwood Academy highlights are very impressive. It sticks out because it is over 7mins long and they show nice play making ability on every play.

We have no true FS on our roster right now. That is why he is such an important recruit. Kelly, McNeil, and Reeves-Maybin are all pure SS, Lemond is a big question mark, and Randolph, who can play FS, is much better suited as a SS.

Sorry man, but if healthy I think Randolph is a good FS. He could play the strong though. But I noticed the impact when he got hurt last year.

No, Paul, Hubbs, and Buck Fitzgerald (the guy who takes him on his visits to Tennessee) have all repeatedly said that he is being recruited as a safety.

Coach Abernathy, from BA, has taken him on all the visits that I know of (except for the one several weeks ago when he and Barnett and their families visited). Not that it matters a lot.

Another poster said thats all he played in hs was fs

I was his teammate. We ran a strict 4-4 defensive alignment in 2008 and 2009 and Randolph was the lone safety. He played the role of FS that mainly contributed in coverage but he just had unparalleled instincts and actually led our team in tackles. His senior year was when we really instituted a 3-3-5 passing defense which you'll see in his senior highlights.

No. He is still ranked a 88 on 247 and outside the top247.

It probably has to do with the fact he hasn't been in the national spotlight at any camps this summer.

Strange, then, that even without a completely subjective 90+ rating I still want him to commit to my team.

ASAP.

Please.
