'14 TN APB Jalen Manning

yeah no....this is easily believable... that's only twice his weight...

Yeah I know everyone on volnation benches 500 pounds, is 6'5, and fly dragons to work but that's a lot of weight for a human being.

But I was thinking he got that number in 2 or 3 years when he has probably been working out a while.

Wurd on the street is that his father is a professional weight-lifter. Not sure but with that kind of benchpress it's believable.

I don't think his Dad is a weight lifter. But his whole family is built and strong like that. His Grandfather was 70 years old helping us in tobacco, and I was in awe at how that man was built at that age. So, most of Jalen's strength is pure genetics.

Yep, it usually is about genes..

I kill dragons at work :)
Otherwise spot on...

Give this kid an offer as an athlete. Regardless of whether people believe he is as strong or not in terms of his bench and stats, he is strong and athletic, he will find somewhere to contribute whether HB, FB/H-back/TE out of the backfield, or LB/possibly S. From all accounts he sounds like an upstanding young man and has his head on straight to go along with the fact that he is an instate kid and freakishly athletic.

Physically, Manning is a very rare talent. At last week's National Underclassmen Combine in Knoxville, he measured 5-10, 184 and put up these marks:
* 33" vertical
* 10'5" broad jump (at this year's NFL combine, only one RB did better)
* 4.45 40
* 4.56 shuttle
* 37 reps(!) @ 185 lbs

I can't speak to his ability as a running back, as I have not seen him play. However, with no offers from any FBS schools, it is safe to say that coaches do not see him as a running back at the next level.

But if I were a coach, he'd definitely be getting an invitation to summer camp after posting those numbers at the combine. I'd want to see what he's like as a db, if nothing else.

Edit: His shuttle number needs to improve a lot.

Looks like that strength has been verified. He did his own body weight 37 times. He'll I'm 250 and couldn't come close to that. Extremely impressed!

how good he is i do not know, but i think those numbers qualify him as a workout monster.

Heard through the grapevine that Jalen was offered by Mississippi State. Now, what the details of the scholarship are (full ride or partial), I don't know.

I'll say this though...the new coach at SC got more than a stern talking to by his dad for the lack of PT he's seen so far this year, last Friday. He's really doing Manning, and a few other Seniors, a disservice with the little PT they've received.

Is the Coach trying to prepare for the future?

By sitting your best player? Which Manning is, undoubtedly.

The allegation I've heard is that "he's playing his friend's kids." I took that with a grain of salt, bc I don't know the situation but, I was there last Friday and Manning saw very little PT but when he did, SC was better, period.

It would be very wrong to sit seniors in hopes to make young players better, but it would be even worse to play your friend's kid. That's rec league stuff

Yep. From what I've heard, he's not the most popular coach, with a lot of people.

They have a new read based offense so of course the opposition makes sure that the other kids get the ball. They are changing back to the power I though. This kid will surprise me if he goes d1. Good athlete but does not seem to be as nearly good as he should be. Jmo
