'14 OK QB David Cornwell

Offered or offered a chance to earn at offer at tryouts?

From 247

Alabama extended an offer this morning to Brandon Harris, three-star quarterback from Parkway High School in Bossier City, La. He will still need to attend camp like all other quarterbacks who have been offered.

Also our sites are reporting that the staff wants to take 2 QBs this class. And no UA has not passed on Cornwell. He still seems to be the top target in the class. But UA still has a battle to land Cornwell.

TW, they are seriously taking 2 QBs this cycle? Bama just signed 2 with another pretty good walk-on last cycle. How many QBs does it take to hand the ball off?

It has been rumored for months now that Ely is planning on transferring, but I tend to not believe the reports that the staff will take 2 QBs, but who knows.

Oh I forgot not allowed to post info from UA pay sites that may not favor UT. I got to remember that.

I don't give a damn what everyone else says. I enjoy getting as much info as I possibly can without paying for it. No matter if it's from a UT or UA site or if it favors UT, UA, or whoever. Your posts don't bother me in the least and if they bother others so bad I recommend they just put you on their ignore list.

UA isn't the other school guilty of it, but why say you've extended an offer if it's not committable? If it has a stipulation like you have to attend a camp & earn it, then that means it is NOT a real offer.

I agree but every QB has stated that is how it works. They call it an offer I call it an invitation to try out.

Why is he thinking about transferring? Of course if he couldnt beat out Blake Sims im not sure how could he could be. Ala is in trouble if AJ goes down and Sims has to QB yall.y'all

Why are they taking 2 when they took 2 last year? Plus have Ely and Morris.

Edit: saw your answer TW. Plus I forgot about Del Rio. Surely no highly sought kid would be dumb enough to walk into a 2 QB class at UA with what they already have.

That is where I disagree with the sites, especially Bone who seems to think so. UA also took Del Rio as a walk-on so 3 QBs in the class. So we currently have 7 on the roster with maybe 3 at most leaving after next year. I think UA is trying to get as many targets to camp and hope to land one of them. Unlike in the past where that have tried and missed like with Winston and Gunner the year before last.

given your normally tempered responses i take this one as Cornwell is a real possibility to UT. thanks Nicky!

I think it is a UA/UT battle 50/50. I do not think UT is still trying to catch UA but he could go either way at this point. Some on here believe he is waiting for UA to give him the green light but I think UA is worried enough and why they went to see him throw in person already.

Seems to me that the staff might take Barker's commit if he decided to and close it up. I get that Cornwell is the ideal, but I don't see us taking more than 1 QB and I don't see us making Barker's offer a non-committable one.

Sounds like he already has the green light to commit anywhere he wants to me.

Come home David. You won't regret it. After 4 years of ball here no matter what you decide to do, Volnation will make sure you are successful in your endevors. Ask any VFL!

I'm starting to become really interested in the Alabama players results in the NFL echoing Carroll's USC players. Thinking back to the Pete Carroll led USC run, they had dozens of NFL players and signed the top recruiting class nearly every year and, yet, in spite of those numbers, they did not produce that many NFL stars (Carson Palmer is the best QB and he played before Carroll really got rolling there and Leinart, Sanchez, Bush, LenDale White, Mike Williams, etc., have been epic busts). The only true NFL star from USC's much hyped run is Clay Matthews (Brian Cushing is a very solid player). Likewise, Bama has yet to really establish NFL stars. Admittedly, it is probably too early to judge the Bama NFL players since Saban's run really began four or five years ago but Julio Jones seems to me to be one of the few big time players. My point is that a lot of these high school kids only look at the numbers getting into the league and fail to realize that USC and Bama have a relatively poor track record (when compared to the recruit rankings and number of players drafted) of producing NFL stars. I think part of it is that these players get used to playing alongside other dominant players and are not required to fend/compete for themselves against similarly, or even more, talented teams. I think this is also demonstrated in basketball with Duke, UNC, KU, and UK producing a lot of NBA players but few stars (they're nearly always the most talented team). The best players in the NBA aren't from the premiere schools: James (high school), Bryant (high school), Durant (Texas), Westbrook (UCLA, this is an exception), Wade (Marquette), etc. Some of it is assuredly chalked-up to every player in the NBA being excellent but some of it has to do with player development, IMO. I'm not sure what this means exactly but, in my mind, there is a sweet spot for professional development in playing for a marquee program for exposure but it is not necessarily advantageous to play for the premiere program if you want to reach your full potential. This is not an argument for UT or any other similar program just an observation.

Brian Cushing is a steroid user and Troy Polumalu isn't too bad a player. Ray Maualuga isn't too bad either. But I agree with your general statement that most of the highly touted college stars from USC have not played at that level in the NFL.
