"I think that Michigan State, Tennessee, North Carolina, Kentucky and Louisville have really stepped up in the recruiting game," Kizer said. "Right now I would say them along with and Ohio State, who hasn't offered, and I would add in a Rutgers, are the seven schools I have kind of narrowed it down to right now."

"Right now, Michigan State has become sort of a leader just for the fact that I have been there quite a few times," Kizer said. "Coach [Mark] Dantonio, Coach [Dave] Warner or the area [recruiting] coach came down once a week, so they really have been putting the full-court press on me. Now it is to the point where it's almost like I know everything about them."

A total of three trips have been taken to Michigan State over the past year, with Kizer's most recent visit to the Spartan's campus happening last month.

"I went to Michigan State's elite Junior Day," Kizer said. "I got to see some basketball and sat down with Coach Dantonio quite a bit."

The trip to East Lansing was the only one Kizer has taken this winter because he is currently involved in his high school basketball season. Once basketball ends, baseball starts for the three-sport star, so he plans to get creative in scheduling visits as he works towards his college selection.

"Right after basketball season I am going down south to play baseball in Florida," Kizer said. "So I want to stop by Kentucky, then continue down south and go to Tennessee and then head east and go to Duke and North Carolina before I head down to Florida for baseball.

"Now it is whether I will be able to get out to other schools and if those guys can catch up to Michigan State. Being a quarterback, it is kind of a race. Most schools are only taking one guy [per class], and schools like Michigan State and North Carolina have put out more than three offers. All those guys are probably thinking the same thing I am… who's going to commit first?

"The sooner the better is my motto right now, but I don't want to be close-minded just because I have been to Michigan State quite a few times. You still have to weigh out your options and see what those schools have to offer."

“I’m a big guy when it comes to education and as most people say ‘North Carolina is the Stanford of the east coast,’” Kizer said. “That right there puts them on top of a lot of other schools that have offered and have shown interest.

“And what they’ve been doing with their offense is ridiculous – having one of the top eight offenses in the nation. It’s been great to do research on them.”

Over 20 schools have offered Kizer. Among those that have offered, Kizer says he’s looking closest to a group consisting of Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan State, Nebraska, UNC, Penn State, Rutgers, and Tennessee.

“I’m going to be spending my time seeing as many schools as I can within this next month to two months and early spring time,” Kizer said. “And hopefully from that, I’ll be able to see as many different schools and meet as many different coaching staffs as I can. From there, I can start narrowing down my list to two or three. And then hopefully, I can make a decision before spring time ends.”

The news offers really changed his plan according to the ESPN article.

A week ago, DeShone Kizer sat down with his parents to discuss his future. The three of them were planning to end the Toledo (Ohio) Central Catholic quarterback’s recruitment.

“We almost prepared to maybe commit to a school,” Kizer said. “We laid out a few schools and compared and planned on making a decision in two or three weeks.

Kizer had a top three of Michigan State, North Carolina and Northwestern before the Alabama and LSU offers. He said he won’t just adjust his leaderboard to create a new top five, instead just reassessing his entire recruitment. He will still visit the Tar Heels this weekend, though.

“I’d say I’ll reevaluate things altogether,” Kizer said. “There’s going to be a few more schools to offer in the next month or two. I’ve had a lot of conversations with UCLA and Stanford, and I’m going to [Los Angeles] in the spring and maybe visit UCLA and go up to Stanford.

“Once that happens, I’ll try to make a solid top five before a decision.”

He seems to like Alabama a lot, which is okay with me considering Cornwell is another option. We and the elephants offered both, and I would gladly take Cornwell when this guy commits to Bama. Even though this kid has some potential. And would fit our scheme nicely

We seem to have amped up the hot sauce here. Possibly a sign Cornwell is heading towards Bama and Barker is heading towards USCe or Kentucky.

Good call OF, I think I said the same thing abou Kizer in Cornwell's thread, he definitely is more the type of what Butch uses at QB, he looks like a good one. I just hope we get one of the three. Kizer has been getting some good offers lately though so who knows. But he definitely is more of a dual threat than the others and that's what the Butcher likes.

Im not sure he favors one over the other as far as what type of QB. I mean if he preferred DT QB's he wouldnt be going after Cornwell or Barker. And really Dobbs isnt a DT guy either. This kid would be my 2nd or 3rd choice behind Cornwell and maybe Watson, but were not getting Watson.

Well that's what he has away used, but I could see that changing a little bit since it is "power spread". You go after Cornwell no matter most likely, and Barker is mobile enough. Definitely not Ty B slow or anything
