We offered a long time ago. Not sure of chances, but he's wide open and nobody is leading right now. Bama, Florida, FSU, Notre Dame, and Ohio State are among the kid's 20 offers. Long shot, but he's open.

Thomas Holley had an impressive afternoon setting the pace for the defensive line group and winning the defensive line MVP award. The 6-4, 285-pounder is still relatively raw but showed why he has become one of the most highly recruited defenders in the country.

The Top-100 prospect is still open in his recruitment, but Holley named Coach Cristobal from Alabama, Coach Sunseri from Florida State, Coach Warner from Ohio State and Coach Johnson from Penn State as coaches who have kept in touch the most throughout the past few months. The 6-foot-4, 285-pound lineman took visits to Penn State, Rutgers and Boston College this spring but has plans to take a number of visits down south this summer before he feels comfortable narrowing down his list of schools.

I would love to get in on this kids recruitment. Seems like a late bloomer as far as high school football goes, but has a ton of potential IMO.

From a few weeks ago on ESPN.

More visits will eventually come for Holley, although nothing is set. He wants to visit as many schools to offer as possible -- 20 in all -- and names Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Tennessee and USC as places he definitely would like to see. He knows time and money are an issue, so he might not be able to make as many visits as he would like.

Also, just recently won positional MVP at Sunday's Nike event held at the Jets facility here in the northeast.

What has caught Penn State's eye: Holley is a natural athlete. He has just eight high school games under his belt, but he's already dominating on strength and athleticism alone. Penn State defensive line coach Larry Johnson told the DT that he hasn't formed any bad habits yet and, although he's very raw, he's also very moldable. PSU sees a lot of potential here, and Holley is very quick for such a big guy. He is kind of a project, but the payoff here is big.

Lincoln High School (Brooklyn, N.Y. ) defensive tackle Thomas Holley has seen his recruitment explode and it appears only to be picking up more and more momentum. Earning MVP at the recent NJ Rivals/Under Armour Camp is only going to make things that much busier.

As of now I have 21 offers. My most recent one was Tennessee, Holley said. It"s great but I'm just focusing on getting better.

After I take my SAT and my AP psychology exam, I'll be flexible to take more visits because I'll have more free time.

"I never imagined a year ago that I would be looking at colleges to play football," the 6-4, 299 pound Holley said. "I have grown up playing hoops and have only played 8 games of football in my life."

"I don't know a lot about them," Holley said. "I am just really starting to watch football. I know Tennessee is a rebuilding program. I have talked to their coaches including coach Stripling and it sounds like it's a good environment there."

He will go up in rankings. He's a guy no one knew about last year. He has 8 games of tape. No one offered him till February. He will go to 4 stars this morning in my opinion.

Hubbs is the confirmation to what we've been told about how recruiting works. Kids are showcased and rated based on camp performances. And after reading the article about Holley's NJ camp performance it wasn't matter of if but when.

From ESPN, Speaks very highly of PSU, no mention of us, would love to be able to get him to visit.

The four-star defensive tackle hopes those calls slow down once he names his top five, which he plans to do sometime before his senior season begins. He wants to finish up his unofficial visits this summer, think about which schools he likes best and then release a list, likely sometime in August.

He'll leave for the state of Florida next Wednesday to see the Gators, Florida State and Miami (Fla.). He plans to stop by Notre Dame later in the month.

"Those are the only ones I know for sure right now," Holley added.

The first question he plans to ask those schools will center on academics. Holley wants to know whether they offer a criminal justice major, what kind of academic support he'll receive and the classroom size. He also wants to find an environment where he feels comfortable and discover a staff he can relate to.

The athletic 300-pounder, who received an invitation to The Opening, swore he didn't yet hold any favorites that met all that criteria. And, no, he hasn't yet penciled in any schools in that top five.

Holley made a southern swing to visit Florida, Florida State and Miami and then hit Notre Dame and Ohio State the following weekend last month. He also is planning visits to*Syracuse*and Rutgers, and he could make a trip to*Tennessee. Holley is not listing any leaders.

Watching a lot of vids from the opening on recruitments, so I'm going to be doing a lot of updates. These vids are on YouTube and its them directly talking.

On Holley's recruitment:
-the interviewer was raving about his performance at The Opening
-not sure on where else he's visiting this summer, but is taking more visits soon
-says the main factor is comfort ability and his parents opinion is huge
-when he was asked what other school he wants to see, the first school he named was Tennessee (he only named 3 btw)
-will have a definite top 5 at the end if summer
-wants to decide either before his senior season or in the middle of his senior season
-night it might not take officials depending on if he decides before or mid-season
-focused on Notre Dame, OSU, and UF
-says he wants to be used as a versatile DT that can play multiple positions

Butch is showing how you can create buzz for the school the right way, something Kiffin never really got with his any attention is 'good' attention.

I think this kid may have the best career out of all the DT's in this class, so much potential IMO.

This guy and Lambert would certainly provide some relief on the interior next year.

Do you realize it has been ten years since Tenn has signed a top 10 defensive tackle coming out of high school (Rivals rating)? O'Brien was rated 12th. Donald Langley was rated 12th. Demonte Bolden was the last DT we signed ranked in the top ten coming out of high school, and that was in 2004. I don't think he got here until 2005 though.

If Holley is as good as he is rated, then we need Holley in this class. I would take him over Barnett, Humphreys, Ford, Lambert, or anyone else, except an even better DT. That's if he's as good as he is rated.

Funny how the drop off coincided with our descent. We need DT to be priority number one each and every year.
