Scott doesn't have elite break away speed but he does have elite elusiveness. I look forward to seeing him on the field some this year

Gurley/Marshall= Hurd/Scott

Biggest difference is one combo is proven and Scott while not as fast as Marshall has better vision and footwork. I do think they'll have that type of impact for our offense. So glad to get some dangerous RBs here that can make plays on their own at times.

I decided not to watch his film until he commited to us. Wow! Vision and shiftiness. I'm impressed. I can't wait to see him wearing orange.

I'm confident Hurd can have a Gurley like impact but I'm nervous about Scott's durability. I'm just glad were signing three quality backs this year. We have no depth at the RB position

His coach stated he started every game since his freshmen year. Pretty durable if you ask me. :)

I googled for his 40 time and found some reports of closer to 4.4 (4.41), but I guess we'll have to wait and see how he looks on the field in Knoxville. Even if he runs at 4.5, with moves like that, he's dangerous.

Scott's "fastest" 40 times were recorded at a small combine held at Havelock HS last March, where he ran a 4.52, 4.41 and 4.41 consecutively. That was a hand-timed event, however, and hand times are almost always faster than electronic times.

At The Opening last summer, Scott measured 5-10.5, 184 and he recorded an electronically timed 4.62 40, 4.25 shuttle and 35.3" vertical.

IMO, Scott's video highlights confirm that he doesn't have superior speed. What he does have is incredible quickness, vision, and cutting ability, and to me those are more important traits for a RB than straight-line speed.

his lateral quickness and footwork make him elite. his cuts are absolutely filthy and hes very good catching the ball. 40 time doesnt mean much with a kid like this. he plays much faster.

I just don't see him as an every down back. I probably could have worded that better

hes not suppose to be an "every down back" he is a home run threat and is a guy that good offenses get the ball to 8-12 times a game. they didnt try to sign him to be an every down back.

Busy day... finally able to boom.

Scott finished his stellar career at Havelock with a 58-5 record as the starting running back, including winning 47 of the last 48 with three consecutive state titles. He rushed for 6,166 yards in four seasons with 88 touchdowns on 656 carries. As a senior, he totaled 2,205 yards and 25 scores on 235 carries. He scored 34 touchdowns as a junior.

Doesn't sound like durability problems to me. He's proven he can be an every down back. He will need to add a few pounds and get stronger to be one in the SEC but he's not some skinny scat back.

Just read an article where Urbz told Scott he could be "the next Percy Harvin". Why does he use that like so much?

Derrell Scott commits to Tennessee over South Carolina - Garnet And Black Attack

To give some context, Urban Meyer told Scott that he could be used as the next Percy Harvin during the brief time that he was being courted by Ohio State.

I'm just scouring articles for opinions (all are extremely positive and similar). Just found this funny when I remembered in his announcement he said you have to weed out all the BS you hear from some coaches

I know TL;DR, cool story bro

IMO, this kid doesn't come up short in any category. He has more than adequate speed to be a big play threat, and he'll grow into 200 lbs.

I don't buy that he can't be an every down player, although I don't think any of our backs will be, as long as we have Hurd.

Basilio was dead on. Not only a great pickup, but Fulmer made a living getting big time players out of the Carolinas. Good to see Jones able to do the same.

Yeah Woody Wommack of Rivals said he "could" be an every down back in college, but he'll probably start out as a 3rd down back when he first gets to UT.

Percy is the best alternative running threat to Tim Tebow...who also caught some passes...that UM has ever coached...he holds a special place in Urb's ravaged, war torn heart

I don't even think he starts out as that. I think he starts out as "offensive weapon". 3rd down backs general play a lot of 3rd downs and that's about it, but I see us throwing Scott out there a good bit on any down just to give that home run threat in the backfield. If I could pick percentages for snaps played by RBs, I'd go:
Lane-40%
Hurd-30%
Scott-20%
Pickett-5%
Other-5%

That is pending Lane is fine and is competing with Hurd for snaps. This could easily be way too low for Hurd and way too high for Lane, but I hope Lane commands some carries as the lone experienced starter.
