Scott and Law have to be getting the full court press at this point, but the Kinlaw situation still puzzles me. The kid wanted to commit, why couldn't we ave let him and then if numbers got tight ask him to look elsewhere.

You keep lobbying for Kinlaw but if Butch and staff thought Kinlaw was worthy of being a RB at UT, he'd be on the commitment list. I think Elliott Berry is a better option than Kinlaw, IMO.

Never understood the love for Kinlaw anyway...all the guy did was catch toss sweeps and beat slow high school competition to the corner.

You keep lobbying for Kinlaw but if Butch and staff thought Kinlaw was worthy of being a RB at UT, he'd be on the commitment list. I think Elliott Berry is a better option than Kinlaw, IMO.

+1. You bring in a high quality talent at RB, if you cant get one, then you save the scholly for next year. No need to just bring in a body who isn't going to be a factor.

Exactly. People need to try and forget about Derek Dooley and those years where this kind of stuff happened. Butch tried it once and likely never will again. I admit I even still have flashbacks from those years that I apply to the present.

That's not fair to the kid. If he really wants to be at UT, he will commit when he gets an offer. Whatever school he is committed to at that time will recover much easier than Kinlaw would if we dumped at the last minute.

IMO if WI thinks Kinlaw can play RB there, he could do well anywhere. GT is another place who does well recruiting RBs. I understand the idea of wanting the top 5-10 type player, it does not always play out that way. I also get the thought of if you don't get the top 5 guy, save the ship and try again next year. You just can't keep doing that as eventually your walk-ons are playing 35 snaps a game.

Butch is trying to be an SEC powerhouse like Bama and LSU.

In order to do that you need athletes like Derrell Scott not Kinlaw.

Imani Cross says "Yeah, you need athletes"! Some felt he was not to UTs standards. His 5.4 YPC and 10TDs this year looked pretty good in a limited role. 10TDs on just 84 carries.

Against awful competition. The Big 10 isn't the SEC. If Alden Hill played in the Big 10, he'd probably be an All-American RB, but this the SEC, where real defense is played. That is why Butch is going after elite backs only, not projects.
