The videos show a small portion of the practice during a predetermined period. Judging Butch's temperament off of them is the definition of basing an opinion off too little information. The large majority of what he hear from the team is that they love playing for the whole staff and it feels like a big family.
No one said players don't like playing for him. If the couple hours I watched though it was 99% negative motivation, which I'm not saying is a bad thing. The explosive yelling cursing red faced Butch we see a lot of is contrary to the book he was quoting, all I was saying. I seriously doubt he's a completely different disposition in practice than he is on gameday. Every coach I've ever had is just like that, and I'm not criticizing. Just pointing out the irony.
I've seen him mad at coaches and refs. I've heard him use negatives in jest at practice, but most of the team really likes and respects him. Where do you get that he is "brutally negative"?
I find it ironic that the Jon Gordon book that's from talks constantly about only being positive and how people respond best to positive statements and coaching, while Butch is known for being brutally negative as a motivation tool. Not advocating one or the other, so no one start that argument, just pointing out the irony.
Jeez you are like a broken eff'n record. Irony is you pointing out negativity.
I don't care about Jon Gordon's book. I am saying that you pointing out negativity is ironic. It is amusing to me. You have been incessantly negative all year. At least you are consistent. I wish you would quit acting like Fade Routes long lost twin, and cheer up a little. Whatever bad s*** you want to throw at Butch and co. Just admit one thing, this program is already in light years better shape than he found it.I've never said Butch's coaching style is bad. But Jon Gordon books use explosive yelling coaches as examples of what not to do, and Butch seems to be an explosive yelling coach.
I dislike Jon Gordon, I think he's a fraud. I'd never read him if my previous boss didn't make me. It was truly pointing out irony.
VolQuest.com first reported last week that Derrell Scott and Dewayne Hendrix had elected not to participate in the initial bowl practices and were contemplating their futures in Knoxville. That continues to be the case, with growing skepticism that either player returns next semester. Scott's issues seem to be related to homesickness and it's likely he would return to North Carolina and go to school. But that doesn't necessarily mean an ACC school. It could potentially be somewhere like East Carolina.
