Bull****, don't get me wrong I am happy with this pickup and am always perfectly fine with a staff taking a couple of projects that they see potential in each class. However, there are very few cases of teams that are in the position that we want to be in that consistently take classes consisting of solely 2 and 3 stars. Stars do matter.

Recruiting by the numbers: Why the sites get the rankings right - CBSSports.com

I dont think that is what he means and Tennessee is not only getting 2 and 3 stars. We have proven that we can compete for and get some of the top talent in the country.

It is bc of that reason that it shows me we are not settling for this kid but really want him. The recruiting services are far from always correct. Some of the best players in the country are lower rated guys.

I talked to him last night and he did tell me that DB is the position that the coaches are recruiting him Some info I was able to dig up on Emmanual:

he also plays offense, including QB and has scored 6 TDs in the first two games..four receiving and two passing

some analysis from earlier game this year:

Emmanuel Moseley is back there too in many of the Dudley defensive setups and he is good back there, but he is even better at quarterback….More on that in a minute….#11 grabbed a pick six for Dudley and he might be the Martin kid, who also patrols the secondary for the Dudley defense…More players coming in as we get names for those numbers…

Back to Moseley, there could be an argument that he was the best player on the field tonight….As the Dudley quarterback, I saw him take a snap and break off a run up the middle and he went untouched for about 35 yards and the TD…Moseley was really moving, that kid can fly….He was flashing/showing his speed all night long and it kind of reminds you of Ricky Lewis Jr., from 5-6 years ago….Moseley looks to be maybe two steps faster than Richard Hayes III off of the breakout run, as he hits the sidelines…RH3 was very good, but there is a good chance that Moseley may be a little bit quicker…Moseley is the right man for the job this season, for Dudley…..Didn’t catch too many receivers or runnningbacks names, but as the weeks move on, we will have them all for you…No PA system at the practice facility tonight, but for a ‘Jamboree that almost didn’t happen’, this was a real good one….

The Richard Hayes they are talking about is the Dudley 2012 QB who was listed with 4.5 speed, he signed with Furman last year

Serious question: Why do some people on here trust a recruiting service evaluator over this staff? Who gets paid more? Who has a bigger profile with more on the line? Those recruiting evaluators would kill for Butch's salary and yet some on here trust their evaluation more than our staff's?

Maybe a few people, but most everyone in this thread so far seems to be fully supportive of this new commit and trusting in CBJ's evaluation. At least from what I've read.

Not trying to pump sunshine but ponder this for a moment.

Kid has 4.36-4.4 speed and is playing QB now... Long shot he'd ever even got looked at for QB but a 4.4 kid that has/can throw doesn't grow on trees.

He's also a sleeper at KR/PR and WR. The more I think about it it's hard to really see the kids versatility "value" as anything remotely 2*. Obviously he could be a jack of all trades master of none but he seems like a no brainer as a gamble style pick up.

At his current pace he will not end the season as a 2* ! Do the rating services re-evaluate during or after senior seasons ?

Serious question: why would you trust our staff over every other major program's staff, given that he has exactly zero major conference scholarship offers?

In this regard, we're seeing a repeat of the Dooley years. Fans are eager to excuse any misstep the staff makes, if indeed this turns out to be a mistake. The facts as we have them are that no other major conference offered this kid. None of them.

That's not an evaluation by recruiting services. That's an evaluation by an overwhelming majority of college football's top staffs.

Question: Did Alabama and Texas A&M offer Weatherd before or after we did? Answer: After. I absolutely trust our staff's evaluations. How many major programs offered the #1 overall pick in the last NFL draft?

Simple: because the staff is COMPETING against other staffs for scarce resources: talent; whereas the recruiting services have no such limitations. The same mistake was made by this site over and over again during the Dooley era. It's a very easy point to grasp.

That said, having a top 5 class shelved with 4 and 5 star players makes taing a chance like this a lot more palatable than one full of 2 and 3 star players (Dooley's).

You guys need to lighten up on ole ETN. He hasn't had a thing to b!tch about since Dooley left. We get a 2* from out of nowhere.

Let him have his moment.

A point to consider... Dooley offered 2* talent out of necessity to fill a class. I don't see this as an issue at all with the current class. In fact Mosely is likely displacing a higher rated player that would love to play with this team. The only conclusion could be that there is something this staff sees in Mr. Mosely that others have not seen yet. :peace2:

Have you looked at this staff's 2014 recruiting rankings? In no way does this compare to Dooley. Dooley would've already lost to WKU as well.

Kid has speed/height for a high school CB and will add lbs by 2014. Martinez & Thigpen are seasoned recruiters so they obviously see some potential & character in this kid. No harm in offering first & getting in early. Maybe more offers will follow maybe not. I'd rather see the staff jump on a prospect rather than wait to see what everyone else does.

Many staffs gamble on a kid who is a low 3 star or 2 star. You act like it only happens at Tennessee. They key is don't make a whole class out of it, just a few picks you believe in.

Also how is this a misstep ETNVOl? Is that a Crystal Ball in your pocket or you just happy to see me?

It's really not difficult to pick out the best players, IMO. A lot of people could pick out 5 star players without any previous knowledge of the recruits' ranking. JMO.

Since CBJ just had a nobody drafted as the 1st pick in the last NFL draft....and has a wicked known eye for talent...I am not going to question this one.

But if we had a list full of Moseley level kids....all mattresses would be in flames and babies would be kicked as we speak :eek:k:

I think CBJ also recruited JJ Watt to CMU also.
