It's actually a pretty in-depth analysis by Ryan Bartow. In a nutshell:
1. Elite speed straight line and excellent transitional speed
2. Good frame, can definitely put on 20lbs in a college s&c program
3. Height and reach are great for a corner, and he has loose hips
4. Surprisingly strong for his size
5. Outstanding student and high character kid
6. Bartow definitely sees him getting a third star.

I am not hating on Moseley AT ALL, but I swear the "Butch recruited Eddie Fisher as a 2*!" posts have lost their impact.

We get it. Butch made a great evaluation of a player. That ONE evaluation does not guarantee every 2* Butch offers will go #1 in the draft. Besides, I'm pretty sure every poster on VN knows about Eddie Fisher now. Let's not dwell in the past! :)

Explain Weatherd.

Some quotes from the article:

“As a junior, he was playing corner and some receiver. But he’s gotten a lot faster,” Bartow said.

“And he’s over 6 feet, (has) long arms. Still learning a position, so it’s in front of him. But he’s a cornerback with long arms, can backpedal. Pretty good hips, but he’s also got good transitional speed. Real good frame where he’s going to be, down the road, 6 foot, 6-1, 200 (pounds).”

“He’s only about 160, maybe 165,” Davis said. “We went to (North) Carolina, went to (N.C.) State, Clemson. And I’ll be honest with you: I was down there at Carolina, and he was by far the best (defensive back) down there. And the coaches told me, ‘If he was 180 (pounds), we would have offered him on the spot.’ It was the same thing with Clemson.

Ryan Bartow, 247 analyst, thinks that Clemson definitely would have offered if they weren't only taking a couple DBs in their class. His HS coach said that he's already taking college level courses and graduating early is a definite possibility.

So essentially he's a developmental guy with a very high ceiling. If you're going to take a 2* seems like a no brainer. You can put on weight and muscle but you can't make them taller or that fast.

*yes you can make players faster but not typically elite speed faster.

There's an inherent risk in putting weight on players like this. Do they keep that speed with the added weight?

With his height and length, it bodes well for him to be able to carry more good weight, but it's not guaranteed.

this may be a stupid question. does he not have 3 or 4 stars because he is skinny? it sounds like he is good from what everyone is saying

Recruiting services attempt to predict talent on the basis of past performance and current physical characteristics. Coaches attempt to win games by raising the level of performance through training, education, and conditioning, and as such have a better sense of how a recruit will grow. I would wager that a coach with a good eye for talent can spend an hour with a recruit and by observing his responses to coaching, can tell you far more about his potential than a recruiting service.

Which is to say that if a recruiting service gives a recruit high marks, he is probably a good bet...but...if they give him low marks, it doesn't mean that he won't be good, it just means that it hasn't been demonstrated yet. OTOH, if a good coach offers a poorly rated guy, rest assured that he sees potential that simply hasn't been coached up yet. It'll be very interesting to see where Dews and Moseley are at the end of this season. Gut tells me there will be some surprises.

It absolutely amazes me how amazing folks perceive Oregon to be, yet their star level is almost equal to ours. Seriously...either stars tell the total picture and we have a great chance of beating them...OR...stars are only one part of the equation, and coaches like Chip Kelly know how to find the *right* talent, not necessarily *best* talent, that can be coached into what they need. My money is on the latter, and on the fact that when Butch and his staff look at a kid, they see something far different than a recruiting service sees.

Good post. I've always said that if analysts were really the shizz they'd be on a staff somewhere.

Regarding Oregon and the average star ranking being similar to ours, they're waaaaay better at the QB and RB position. Those couple of spots can mean a couple of touchdowns.

I don't have it. Mods please activate it on my profile. I have reached the post minimum...

Samari Rolle probably didn't weigh 170. He was a lockdown NFL corner. It may not be the norm, but I agree with you.

Why is it when we get a 2 or 3 star the masses begin polishing a turd? The guy may be the greatest thing since Shasta. I don't know if he is gonna be great or not but come on guys.

Why do you consider a 2 or 3 star player a turd?

I haven't seen any outlandish predictions in this thread. All I see are people saying he has the physical tools to be successful and that they trust Butch to coach him up and spot talent.
