Tennessee has been in contact with him since the fall but he has never really been interested. He is scheduled to visit Florida this weekend and I'm not sure about any other visits.

Word is he wants to be 'the man' and he didn't few like he could do that at Tennessee with Hurd coming in.

not sure what's already been reported here but a source close to the in-state minnesota commit told me that jones could take an official to knoxville before nsd and that their is legit interest in the vols. We'll see what happens. Jones had a great senior season winning mr. Football before capping it off with a great week at the under armour game.

247's R. Callahan on the possible visit:

No, if there's any serious interest here on Tennessee's part, I can assure you it's as a backup plan to Scott and Williams. Those are the Vols' top two targets at the position.

As I said in another thread, it sounds like there hasn't been a ton of contact between UT and Jones recently. If Tennessee was to miss out on Scott and Williams, the Vols maybe could make a late run at Jones. But even if they did, they probably wouldn't have a great chance of flipping him.

He did look really good. Rumors are that grades might be an issue though.

yep. UF made visit to HS to get an update on grades. They were assured his grades were on track. Mich has concerns about them also. Sounds like Jan 31 OV to AA is off atp. Reason many cb's shifted from UF/Mich back to Minn.

Basically, he is a back up plan behind Williams and Scott. Those two are at the top of UT's RB board.

makes me feel even better about Hurd. Also, don't want a kid who doesn't want to compete. Wanna be the man? Earn it by showing the coaches that you're the best. I think it was Butcher that said, if you wanna play in the SEC, you better be ready to compete every day.

Edit: Andrew Butcher ‏@ButcherAndrew1 53s
If you are going to play football in the SEC you can not be afraid of competition...

He showed out in the UA game. I'd like to have him but he might end up like that RB from Louisanna. That left after the spring because of the depth chart.

He doesn't have a qualifying ACT score to even get into college, and is not retaking the ACT until after NSD. That's why several schools have backed off. If he signs on NSD, and doesn't make the score (his 4th attempt) then you lose that scholarship for the year.

Not worth the risk

It doesn't work that way, if the kid signs the LOI, and then doesn't get in due to academics, you lose the scholarship for the year.

That's what they did to fix oversigning.
