'14 LA ATH Darrel Williams

"They just wanted to tell me that they were offering. That was pretty exciting," Williams said. "They were very cool and they were being honest."

"They said they need some true freshmen to come in and play for them next year," Williams said.

"You can't beat that," Williams said. "You'd be playing in the SEC and could be starting your freshman year. What else could you ask for?"

"I know Arian Foster came from there," Williams said.

"I'm still looking," Williams said. "I've still got my eyes open to see if there are better options."

He said even though he's committed to ASU he's keeping his options open and he plans to take OV's after the season. He said Mizzou is recruiting him very hard and LSU is still showing interest.

Him being a RB/Athlete from LA gives me bad memories of Davonte Borque.

But he's a RB and we need one. I like his potential as a power back. He's huge for a HS RB. And at this point we probably have limited options.

I haven't heard any bad issues with him like was happening in the Borque recruitment. I consider him the 3rd best back in the state, but he is different than both Fournette and Palelei. On another related note, Palelei had ACL surgery, but sounds like they found it was not even partially torn so I would expect him to be ready for Fall. LSU might take a 3rd but I think they would like to stick to two, and there is no guarantees of Fournette.

Bourgue had problems from the start and it never stopped, local coaches have a head start in some situations.

Thanks for the info. I think LSU sticks with two given Brossette and Guice are in the 2015 class in the state of LA (with Brossette already committed). Guice looks to be a player as well.

LSU will be rolling the dice, if they take 2, that is even if Fournette commits. I think 2 would be best, but if Hillard declares then it could be trouble for 2014, 2015 I agree things will be okay by then.

Blue - Senior
Hill - NFL bound
Hillard - Possible early NFL, has a kid
MaGee - Junior

Palenli - Commit, coming off ACL repair

Possibility of only one scholarship RB come 2014 currently on roster, while working in a new QB. :mf_surrender: Not good. I like Magee but not a primary RB. Hearing a possible another RB commit for 2015 might be coming soon but 2014 is a potential huge problem if Hillard leaves, and if Fornette doesn't commit it is borderline disaster for the RB position in 2014.

So, basically what this kid is saying is, ASU should start looking for another RB.

Looking at his offer list. No offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, L.S.U., or Texas A&M. Hmmmm. Why is that? These schools know a good back when they see one.

His team was somewhere between dreadful to winless last season, so he was overlooked. He almost got an LSU offer over the summer is my understanding but they were only looking to take 2 at that time.

Then we (ASU) came in and poached him- If it was Tennessee I'd feel fairly good about our chances given program trajectory and likelihood of early PT- Grice, the nation's leading scorer, is a senior, and there really is no true big back. Most of ASU's generally very good RB group are of the 200 poundish speedster variety. He could walk in and be the primary pounder if he plays well enough, which is important since ASU actually has a fairly downhill running game from the spread.

Now with the LSU offer, it would be a very pleasant surprise if he stuck. If he does, it'd basically be because of the ASU OC, who is the young-blue-chip-gonna-be-HC-somewhere-important type.

Yeah we'll take him like we did with Josh Dobbs. WE ARE TENNESSEE!!!! He'll flip because of my head coach.

lol, okay. Some of the ASU people are still a bit butt hurt about Dobbs, but it didn't really bother me. It sucks losing commits in that manner, but realistically, Taylor Kelly isn't leaving early and there are 2 more allegedly competent sophomore QBs on the roster. Dobbs is playing for you guys already, whereas he'd be redshirting here and very unlikely to have a chance to start until his rs junior season.

He made the right choice.

And besides, our QB recruit this year has basically landed us one of Cal's best commits and one of USC's best commits.

If I were Zona State I wouldn't want to be in a fight with Tennessee for a southern recruit at all. Kid has been fed the SEC his whole life. He can come here and play Day 1 too.

Sure, it's an uphill fight in most cases, just like the odds of SEC teams coming into California and winning is fairly long. It happens though- we've got a few kids from NOLA on the team. ASU is a pretty easy sell to offensive skill players right now, especially a running back that can handle it 20+ times a game. If he flips to Vols due to geography, so be it, but the SEC offer that concerns me more is the LSU one.
