'14 JUCO WR Eric Lauderdale (previous UT commit)

I don't want to be in the "he de-committed so we didn't really want him crowd." I thought Lauderdale was a very good pick up. However, it seems our young receivers are starting to turn a corner which decreases the desperate need for JUCO receivers. Go full court press on Malone and get the Berry brothers in the fold (can't remember which of them is the fast receiver type) and we will be fine at WR along with Booth and Wharton.

I think this kid joins J. Strong at Arizona State to make a nice 1-2 punch for the Sun Devils.

Evan is the one who wants to play receiver. As much as I like the idea of having 2 Berry's playing for our defense I think Evan will turn out to be a great receiver for us and he will be making his own legacy here as will Elliott at whatever position he plays (Linebacker?).

Yep, we'll have a ton of WRs on the roster next year. Basically every receiver we have is returning. Ignoring what we'll end up with from this class, we'll have:

Harris
Howard
Jenkins
Dallas
Bowles
North
Croom
Young
Smith
Johnson
Blanc
Carter

Some of those aren't really working out well at receiver, but with the incoming class we should have a solid 8-10 WRs in the rotation.

He probably sees us sitting a 4* WR (Paul Harris), that's fast and 6'4"...who was also an EE (had more time to get up to speed than North or Josh Smith), and doesn't want to get the same treatment. Can't blame him. I thought sure this staff would be itching to use all the size they got at WR. Guess not. They like the smallish guys, instead...guys who keep dropping passes, and such (Josh Smith)

Great post, we only start 3 freshman at WR this year so that proves freshman can't start here. North is 6'4 and Croom is 6'5 so that proves we only play smallish guys. I give up your grasp of this is outstanding.

I think his decommitment has more to do with him picking up offers closer to his home in Atlanta. Word on the UF side of things is that the UT staff is still confident they can get him to re-commit.

UF is visiting him in a few weeks, I think we'll know a lot more after that visit. Not totally sure what UF's level of interest is right now.

This is an interesting point. Much like Brady Hoke at Michigan, Butch's commits do not take OVs elsewhere (i.e. Weatherd not going to Texas A&M). Because Lauderdale wants to take his OVs, Butch may have told him that UT will not consider him a commitment but will continue to recruit him and others at WR.

Knoxville is 3 hrs from ATL

Gainesville is what? 6 hrs?

Best of luck to the kid unless he goes to the Gators.

I really hate to lose a good prospect but at the same time I understand his decision. We look pretty stacked at WR. Perhaps this is for the best for both sides we make room for another player who is either better at WR or at a position of bigger need and he gets a better situation in which he can play right away.

Shocker.... Saw this one coming. Still sucks though. Maybe it's because he know Josh Malone is going to committ and he wouldn't see the field over him, north, Croom, pig, Smith,..... But it's whatever. I just hope he doesn't take anyone with him. That's what I'm concerned about.

Tennessee didn’t want to lose Lauderdale by any stretch of the imagination, and the Vols plan to continue fighting for him. In fact, wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni already was scheduled to travel to California this week during UT’s open date to check on Lauderdale and a few other prospects in the area, and the Vols still are planning to see him this week.

Lauderdale’s recent offer from Florida undoubtedly got his attention and has piqued his interest in the Gators. He also has expressed a few concerns over Tennessee continuing to recruit other receivers. But he’s hardly a lost cause for the Vols, and there’s still some optimism that they will be able to overcome his decommitment Sunday and still end up signing him in February.

UF's side and UT's side (according to the GV247 guys) seem to be corroborating.

@e_lauderdale: “@ToyotaVols: @e_lauderdale no need to waste my time. There are other lauderdales out there and a lot are better. Byby” the only Lauderdale

Please tell me that no one on this board is @ToyotaVols. Can we please stop tweeting this crap to recruits. What an idiot!

Really. When you tweet that to one, all can see it. That garbage does not help at all. Wouldn't surprise me that it might be another SEC teams fan that wants to make us look bad.But if it is someone that is a Vols fan, that is one Vols fan we do not need.

Blanc needs to go to S. He's to good a talent not to move him to a position of need and possibly redshirt him. The rest of those guys have all had a chance to play except Harris, Jenkins, and Bowles. Blanc is also playing all special teams downs, and we all have now seen how important that is.

Blanc too good of a talent???? He'll play at safety if we move him? Over who again?

Nothing on Blanc, but the kid is being recruited over as it is. As far as sticking him at safety, that's just assanine. There is a reason he hasn't gotten on the field.

Asinine? No, not really. We need depth in the back field and Blanc has played S in high school. He plays a key role on special teams too. He'll never play as a WR here, but he could def be used on defense as depth. He's making will be on special teams though.
