False. I can criticize anyone's decisions I wish to criticize. Unfortunately for you, criticism is an opinion and I am entitled to have one. He put his situation out there by stating a defined action less than 24 hours prior to scheduling a visit.

Instead of owning up to his mistake he says "I can do what I want". He's not a HS kid anymore. I don't think anyone would care about the visit by itself. Paired with his statement, its a pretty crappy move. I don't think tweeting him his appropriate but if he is reading this board then he needs to ask himself how he would feel if the coaches told him they are done at LB and 24 hours later schedule a 5* LB for an official.

Chris - we have our share of obsessive fans here on the VolNation message board. They're easy to spot. We'd all like to see you running through the "T" in the near future but most of us will respect whatever decision you go with in the end. If it's not us, many of us will be disappointed but wish you well. There are some here however that will be hotter than a girl scorned. I'm sure you get the picture. They were never interested in you to begin with; only what you could do for them. You'll make any linebacking corp more productive so I think it's to your credit that these girls are going all cat fight over you. Good luck young man and best wishes for your future.

If only you had gotten enough info before posting you would have realized that your post was exactly against what our coaches are asking the kid to do. Next time please do your school a favor by getting all the details before you contradict the staff!

Stop. Saying I'd go to the biggest CFB game of the weekend for free is not the same as calling the kid a liar and that he can no longer be trusted. If you can't see the difference you should look harder.

Of course I don't want him to go to the A&M game but instead of bash him and his family I chose to do the smart thing and keep my mouth shut.

I missed this blow up yesterday lol. I will state my facts and this is coming for someone the same age as Chris. You can't tell someone one thing (especially something public that a rabid on edge fanbase like our's will read) and then do another. The best thing I can compare this to is my job as most players take football very serious and I do with my job. If I got offered my job and right then and there I said "yeah I'm going to take this I'm done looking for jobs" and then I called back the next day and say "I'm actually going to an interview for this other job in the same building my mom works" what would you do as boss #1? I mean its none of our decisions (thankfully), but if I was Butch I'm not sure I hold this guys spot. Not only am I going after Garrett but I go after whose ever #2 on our uncommitted board. You can't just lie like that, whether it was to Butch, the fanbase, hell anyone without at least slight repercussions. I'm really hoping he told Butch he was visiting aTm last weekend because if not I don't see any way he's a Vol in the end. Unlike others I'm not going to say what we should or shouldn't do because I'm not sure what our staff knows and what they're okay with, etc. I will say lying wont get you far in life.

Not sure I see the contradiction. He is saying as a die hard Vol fan, he'd rather Weatherd not visit. He is also saying as a fan of good football, he himself would go to the game or if he were a highly sought after recruit he would would take a free ticket to the biggest game of the year. Hopefully I'm not misrepresenting Ron, but that's the way I see it.

Telling a fan base that he is done with his recruitment, will say thanks but no thanks to Sumlin and not even 24 hours later going back on his word. If he owned up to that mistake, I would unplug the keyboard on this subject. If he said Vol fans, it was not my intention to mislead you. I apologize for going back on my word, however my mother and I decided this trip would be beneficial to my overall decision in this recruitment. Then I would be fine with that. Go have fun at TAMU and I hope he chooses the Vols(it's an obvious choice IMO)

I'm not on twitter a lot but it really does seem like he's getting sick of all the negative attention it's getting, just reading some of the things.

I love this Univ but the fan base son, I can't say Ive ever liked. And if we drive Weatherd away I swear...

Lets play role reversal. How would VN react if we just offered Dillon Bates who had been committed to UF for a while (lol yeah right), but how would we react if he OVed for the UGA/SCar game? Would we be saying "oh it's just a good SEC game he wanted to watch it for free" or would we be saying "hell yeah, Dillon is all Vol GBFO!!"?

I doubt we'd have the same reaction of no worries (in the second case excitement). No neutral posts.

I'm hoping Chris is a Vol. Could easily be in our two deep either at OLB or LEO. JMO

He changed his mind, BFD. He doesn't owe the fanbase anything when making a large personal decision.

My personal opinion is I want Weatherd to be a Vol, but if he flips, he is replaceable. We should then put the full court press on Nyles Morgan and try and sell him and Garrett on the idea of two IL linebackers coming to represent the Vols together. If we get one or both, fantastic. If not, add someone else.

Good post even though you and I disagree on Weatherd. Good good post.

The big difference is he has to wait until January to make a final decision and we don't have reporters calling us 24/7 about our job decisions and interviews.

Not a fan of how he's handled this, but people like Bruin are handling it far, far worse.

Life lesson 338: Public comments get publicly criticized.

This type of reaction is the consequence. Again, I do not condone tweeting him or calling him names. But for people to have negative reaction is the consequence. If Butch Jones said LB recruitment is done and sets up Garret for an OV 24 hours later, then him(Chris) having a negative reaction to that is the consequence of that decision.

Agree, not sure what the discussion with the coaches have been and that is way more important than what he told a reporter. He is a Vol until I hear otherwise....No need for anyone to question this kids character at this point...and I am not directing that at you OF

The thing is we won't really ever know what happened. Worst case scenario he decommits and picks aTm and he "tells us why" I'm not sure what to believe. As long as he's honest with the staff I don't care who he visits or even if he decommits if that's what he feels is best, I just don't want our staff to be played. Being played is what ends getting you less than planned signees or lower quality signees on signing day.

I'm really hoping he calls the visit off, but it wouldn't hurt for him to go see aTm get killed as I'm assuming they will be. That's a story for a different thread though :)
