'14 JUCO DT Davonte Lambert (Auburn Commit 12/18/13)

When VQ goes silent it's usually bad news.

I know that. I said yesterday before his inhome with CBJ I was expecting him to cut VQ off from communication. Of course I was just trolling according to the masses here but unfortunately it looks like I read the tea leaves correctly

It wouldn't surprise me to hear that auburn just started pushing to get him in November. I don't Recall them being a factor at all when he commited.

Auburn has been on him the whole time. His DL teammate Devaroe Lawrence committed to Auburn in July before Lambert committed to Tennessee. Auburn felt decently good about Lambert early but his interest kind of randomly fell off a cliff leading up to his eventual commitment to UT. Obviously the outcome of Auburn's season is going to change a lot of previous opinions.

Oh, well. Butch will just shift focus to a big time DL, IMO.

Except he can't focus on another juco DL who is an EE. This is why this guy should not have committed if he was not 100 percent sure.

We are in such a bad spot and I wish we would've went hard after someone else who was an EE DL when he did got to iron bowl. Did not feel good at that time one bit.

Perhaps staff did not either and have something up their sleeves if they anticipated Lambert was shaky.

My gut isn't liking all this silence from VQ. And I didn't like Lambert letting Auburn staff in his house the other day, that's never a good sign this close to the signing period. Lambert kept telling VQ and the staff he was all Vol so let's hope he sticks with that. If we don't hear some good news soon from VQ my guess is a different JUCO DL will be committing soon. JMO

Again, it will suck to lose Lambert but we need to keep our eyes on the ball, this class is still amazing. Butch is changing the culture on the hill and bringing in highly recruited winners. I feel like many of us hang on every single commitment waaaay too closely. Losing recruits happens, just like how Butch steals them from other schools commitment lists. It's all part of the game. And we're just starting silly season, it's only going to get crazier out there. Buckle up, folks!

I agree but we don't seem poaching Auburn, Bama, FL, Ga, LSU, or others save Scott from SC. If he does flip it should not diminish this class or the work the staff has done.

Doesn't have to be a JUCO EE. We just need another DL.

Obviously that helps, but doesn't change the fact.

I don't know about this guys. All the silence on Twitter. Doesn't really show as much excitement of being a VFL. Chris Weatherd asked Lambert if he was done with recruitment but he didn't respond. Lambert sent Weatherd his congrats on ending recruitment. My unbiased opinion is that he will sign with the vols on Wednesday. I think auburn came in a little late.

Wouldn't think so since there isn't supposed to be any trying to lock anything up with dead period is there?

No, just think the coaches might have told Fort and Hubbs it wouldn't be doing us any favors if they wrote that he has gone silent, if he has.

However the fact that he let Malzhan have an in-home kinda worries me. I think the coaches have emphasized the pitch of playing early at UT. Wouldn't be getting as much early playing time at Auburn

What have I not read? His last communication was that he's a vol. Since then he's been visited by us and Aub. He hasn't tweeted all his feelings daily so the world is ending.

It's called reading the tea leaves. Hell, even Ron isn't 100% confident anymore.

Calm down there. We all want Lambert in orange, but we aren't in any position to say one player sets us back 2-3 more years. Lambert is a starter day 1 here, but at the end of the day I'd rather lose my JuCo guys, and keep my highly talented freshman. If we develop our young d-lineman then in 2-3 years we can say a Lambert may be the piece to get us into the SEC championship. We need a true foundation laid first, while using guys like Lambert to help fill in until our freshman grow some.

Lambert's versatility to play inside or out makes him an immediate impact player. Losing a player like that starts a domino effect that could set us back 2-3 more years or longer. And by domino effect, I'm not talking string of decommittments.

Lambert could come in next year and immediately improve our line play. Improved line play helps the lbs and the secondary, all adding up to a better D. A better D contributes to more wins. More wins gives CBJ something more substantial to sell recruits. Better recruits help us improve more quickly. It's all about building blocks. A JuCo like Lambert is a cornerstone in the foundation of what Butch is trying to build.

And your calm down line made me laugh. Don't worry, I'm not worked up. Worked up will be posters coming out of the woodwork should Lambert flip. Then you'll see irrationality at its finest.
