'14 JUCO DT Davonte Lambert (Auburn Commit 12/18/13)

As I hope we can start winning again, I hope your right. When I said I felt we would get (2) DTs for this class, Barnett and Mosley were the (2) I figure we get. Maybe we are able to get in on another project type closer to NSD that everyone will swear was a under the radar stud who we steal from Florida International who will set the college football world on fire. Late DT offers coming out now obviously points to "we are full" as not being the case at all.

Wow. Lol.

Hey, ETNVol, do you have anything positive to say about anything UT FB related? Let's hear it, give us one happy thought?
Absolutely. I think Butch Jones has generally done a fantastic job in recruiting, and have said so previously. He's also mostly set the right tone, just enough enthusiasm without being too over the top.

Nevertheless, he needed to hire someone to recruit DL and we're seeing the results of his failure to do so.

Yes the recent offer to a 2* stud who we'll have to beat out Wake Forest and Tulane to get just screams that the DT class is full.

The same people who act mystified or indignant when this staff is questioned for some of its decisions are mostly the same people who went nuts over the previous 3 years when Derek Dooley was called into question.

Why are you doubting this staff. Let them give you a TRUE reason to before you sh*t all over them. We're #1 in recruiting right now. I can't imagine what you were crying about last summer when we had about 7 commits at this point.

My comments from last summer and the 2 years prior were negative re: Derek Dooley. Which is why you see the QQ negavol posts above. The homer crowd wouldn't take their orange colored glasses off long enough to see the obvious, though now they want to pretend it never happened.

Jones is lightyears better than Dooley, and I have high hopes for them. But that doesn't mean that we shouldn't consider the obvious weakness his staff had from the start. CBJ may do great things at UT and I hope he does, but his assembly of the "best staff in the nation" is the reason that we are lacking along the DL right now.

And contrary to idiocy running all through these threads, there isn't anything mystical or special about DTs that only the great schools can get them. DTs are committing early around the nation, just like every other position.

Results? Did I oversleep and miss signing day?

We actually have a very good recruiting staff and will start getting DLine studs eventually, hopefully soon. Up until this class we have had just as bad or worse landing good RB's and finally have that resolved and we will get our DT's as well. When you look at our staff we have some damn good recruiters and these kids love CBJ.

Henderson already committed, a kid who's dominated the camp circuit this spring/summer. We could have taken Poona Ford, Chris Williams and Connor Humphreys but have passed for better targets (in the coaches evaluations). Mosley and Barnett will be announcing soon and all signs point to UT. Lambert could very well choose UT next week also.

Is Butch and his staff failing at DL recruiting if 2 of those 3 commit to UT before Austin Peay?

Saved.

Everyone on here is a little testy (no homo) because of this DL recruiting. Instead of debate it's heated arguments lol. I'm enjoying every second of this even the bashing I've been receiving

Less than 3 would be a disappointment.
Ehh. People said that we needed at least 1 LB and RB last year. It seems like those worked out okay for us. Not saying that could be the case with DT next year, but I'm not really worried especially as I don't see a way we don't get Barnett and we are in good shape for a few others.

Really? He hired a guy who has 30 years experience, has been at a couple of high level schools, has coached many future NFL players (including a conference Player of the Year and a Lombardi Award Winner), and has also been a recruiting coordinator. Is that the best you got? The man is constantly mentioned in interviews of recruits. Some people...

I feel the same way. The DL recruiting looks about the same it has for years now. Do I hope it makes a turn for the better? Sure I do. Being called a "negavol", or any of the other great names/phrases people have come up with for anyone who does not fall in line and swear it's all going perfect for the Vols is not going to have me changing my opinion anytime soon. If all the other teams in the SEC can evaluate DL players and extend them offers much sooner than we do, then we will continue to be playing catch up. The part I like most is where we "love them", and "want them to be Vols", then we pass on them sending them to other SEC/title contending teams. Looks to be a rock solid plan to me anyway. :)

Nice rhetorical question Ron. Positive? From ETNVol? Not happenin'.....

Do you think this could be Phil Fulmer posting on Vol Nation.....They all sound like him....

It might be best if he had some current information before posting his statements.

It's cool I was called a "d-bag" for expressing my opinions. It's funny all the E-Thugs that roam around here. Most people can talk civilly though. I enjoy debating with guys like yourself, Ron, wU, etc. Disagreeing with someone's opinion doesn't equate to personal insults, even though I don't really mind them.

Back to the DT recruiting though, if we ended up with at least Barnett and Mosley, I'm cool. I would also like a JUCO DT. 3 is my ideal #, 4 at most.

This is going to be a very solid DL class. We're the leader for Mosley. We have Hendrson. Leader for Hendrix. 1 or 2 for Barnett. And in the top 3-5 for Humphries, Lambert, and Elam.

And I don't understand your statement about how our dline recruiting has been subpar for years. That last class under Dooley was an excellent group of Dlinemen.

Who said that? I've heard we passed on Ford, but not Humphries.

I saw where the thought was, if Lambert picks the Vols, we pass on him. If Lambert goes elsewhere, maybe he is still a take. He announces the week after Lambert, so it might be true.

It's not what you say, it's how you say it. Well... sometimes it is what you say.
