'14 JUCO DT Davonte Lambert (Auburn Commit 12/18/13)

Sounds like we're in good shape with Lambert. Hopefully the fact that he would be playing immediately will be the deciding factor. Keeping my fingers crossed.:crossfingers:

I personally hate the "He would get immediate playing time here vs there" argument.

He will have to work for playing time no matter where he goes, otherwise, that leads to players feeling entitled. I would much rather him come in wanting and ready to compete, than to feel like the playing time will be his just by walking on campus.

I see him in the 2 deep the second he gets on campus if he picks Tennessee. With only 4-5 DTs ready to play, he would see the field right away. I would not be shocked if the starters were Carr and O'Brien as Carr is bigger than Lambert. Lambert would see alot of snaps though no matter what.

I think with many people that's generally understood. The implication is if you are looking for immediate playing time then your experience, development, and natural talent give you an edge with our current roster but make no mistake the guys we have will be working their tails off to earn the spot for themselves. That said, my take is it's probably yours if you are willing to work for it. Again, I think many people understand that to be the implication, including the recruits. JMO.

Lambert's an EE, no reason to think he couldn't be a day 1 starter.

He's still coming into somewhere that it wont be handed to him. He better plan on working his butt off, or that playing time will not be his. Our other DL wont just sit there and let him take it.

When he says I can go to UT and start from Day 1, that's a slap in the face to the rest of our DL. I'd rather he say, I can see myself getting some early playing time, but, only if I go in with the mindset that I have to earn it.

I think the staff is hoping that Carr is good enough to start as a Sophomore alongside a JUCO.

I think O'Brien is going to be ready to go. Will be tough to keep him off the field IMO. Only reason I mentioned Carr ahead of Lambert is he would have had a year in the system and Carr is already 10-15lbs bigger than Lambert. All depends on what they look like when they line up next to one another.

I have yet to hear one thing about O'Brien that makes me think he will be an SEC starter at some point. This is a big camp for him.

Simmer down...its more of a depth chart thing. What we are losing at DL vs other schools is inviting to a player that wants on the field day one. No slaps in any faces.

Tennessee DT in 2014 (no current recruits listed)
Clark SR
Carson JR
Saulsberry JR
Carr SO
O'Brien SO

Florida's DT in 2014 (no current recruits listed)
Darious Cummings SR
Leon Orr SR
Quinteze Williams So (although Florida shows him as an OL on their roster, I thought he was a DT
Joey Ivey So

It looks like we both play out pretty evenly in regards to Depth, I didn't look at Auburn cause everyone says they're out.

Quinteze was moved to OL. Also, UF will have Jaynard Bostwick and Caleb Brantley (both true freshman this year) as SO's in 2014.

Thanks F&G, I was going off their roster and they must not be listed yet. Still pretty similar depth

Did he redshirt last year? Michigan wanted him badly, as did many others. Hopefully Stripling can turn him into a solid DT.

Danny O will be good. He's got a mean streak and a good motor. Pretty sure he redshirted. Alabama & Florida wanted him too I believe.

On Danny O, when I subscribed to VQ, I recall Hubbs implying once in the Spring on a podcast or on the message board that we shouldn't have too high of expectations for him. Sounded like he wasn't developing at quite the rate many expected based on his rating. But I later recall Stripling in an interview saying something about fixing the way he used his hands and leverage and that seemed to be improving his performance.

Guess we'll have to wait and see what we hear from Danny O this fall. But I think so far, he's been a mild disappointment.

Can we see a few plays before the write off?

How has a Redshirt been a disappointment?

Some dont understand the concept of redshirting and development. DT is a grown man position in the SEC. Let the guy mature before being "disappointed".
