Bobby P has a long history of severe over performance. When he was in the SEC he was consistently doing more with less than any other coach. That's a bold statement considering Steve Spurrier's history.

The problem is, he historically doesn't recruit well enough to have the talent to turn those extra wins into long term success (by that I mean be a real title contender). BP is dangerous to any team he plays, and can jump up and bite almost anyone. That said, it is very unlikely given his talent differential that he fields a true top 5 team. He will get lots of attention, and win some games he shouldn't, but he will also likely lose some games that he should. In a playoff situation it would be very difficult for me, given his history and cyclical career, and his relative talent (should he survive to be in the playoff talks, his team will be facing much better talent, well prepared, and well coached), to put this teams in the top 5 of any given year, let alone number 1.

Bobby Petrino may not be the best recruiter but at the same time, the programs he has had the pleasure of selling have been WKU, Arkansas and Louisville. Not exactly as easy to recruit to as a Texas, USC, Bama, OSU, Florida, etc. He would be the perfect guy to take over a full cupboard at a big time program. He would win immediately with the talent available and then the winning and assistants should theoretically take care of the recruiting. IF Butch ends up not being able to get it done and we decide to look around, I would take a LONG look at CBP. That's if he hasn't already landed a big time gig by then. I'm very high on CBP if you can't tell, I wanted him hired during the last coaching search. But until that day comes or the results become too much to bear, I'm behind CBJ 100%. :rock:

There is no doubt that I would take a long look at Bobby P if the UT job was open. That said, he could and should have recruited a lot better at Arkansas. I haven't looked at his numbers in awhile, but they were below where Arkansas usually recruits (if memory serves). I wouldn't be terribly surprised if his numbers are low for Louisville.

If you could get a two-fer with Petrino, him AND a great recruiter, it would be a no brainer. He is hard to predict on a single game timeline, and out performs on a yearly basis, but he is still limited by the talent he prefers to recruit.

He also has a history of some attempted career suicide that leads me to believe he isn't a stable or long term solution for any team. Given the recruiting problems we are discussing, he might be great for a couple of years, but I would suggest that he will leave the program worse than he found it.

Yep Georgia is worse than I thought or Mizzou is a lot better . Chubb (63 yds) not as good as I expected and Drew Lock looked better than expected except for the three picks

Fortune smiled, butterflys took wing and we didn't loose a fumble this last Saturday and we recovered 5 from the previous. Apart from voodoo, where should we be?

Yea, a top 10 team beating the current #2 by 40+ points with the leading Heisman candidate and a coach who has had nothing but success... definitely overrated.

This is so. However it is irritating to see Georgia jump us by crapping out a last minute win over the team expected to finish last in the SEC.

What we should hope for is a Petrino motorcycle scandal that forces him out at Louisville (or he could scandalously admit to preferring Domino's over Papa John's), then offer him $3 million a year as an OC.

If your team shows up to play the big games and they take care of business then you are rewarded for it. Meet or exceed expectations and you move up. Underperform and you get busted like we did.

Rankings are not complicated.

If you want to be a highly ranked team then play like one. Simply winning is never enough until you go undefeated.
