'14 IN SG Jaquan Lyle

And confirmed by Lyles.

“@YahooForde: RT @JMamba5 now It's official..I'm de-committed from the U of Louisville. I appreciate Coach P, the staff, and the fans for the support.”

Lyle's a combo guard. Austin can play PG and Lyle the SG spot. It would be nice having two capable ball-handlers out there for a change.

Lots of strange things going on with '14 recruits, decommiting, changing their minds after telling a staff they're commiting. It always happens but seems to be some high profile kids pulling this right now.

I have a feeling there is already an agenda for this kid. Louisville just lost two commits, Memphis lost two unofficial verbals in the past few weeks. Lots of other stuff going on but I have a feeling the Committee will be taking a look at some places like Illinois, especially if they sign Lyles and Alexander.

I wouldn't be surprised if he committed to to Illinois. He's close to Sninder and they had talked about playing together.

Just saw the news. My literal reaction:

Oh fuuuuuuuqqq.....

Maybe. Just maybe. You take Lyle without hesitation, then make room for Looney if he wants to hop on the big orange power train from hell. VOLS!!!!

I don't think there's any question that Tennessee will pick up the phone and try to get back in the mix. Just landed in Portland tonight and haven't talked to anyone, so entirely speculation on my part at this point. Yes, I think the Vols will pursue, but I wouldn't get all worked up about them being in the driver's seat or anything.

The University of Louisville lost its highest-ranked basketball commitment on Friday night when five-star guard JaQuan Lyle announced that he is withdrawing his pledge to the Cardinals.

Lyle, a 6-foot-5 combo guard from Evansville, Ind., attends Huntington (W.Va.) Prep.

“I just felt like I needed to make sure I made the right decision for me,” he said in a phone interview. “I didn’t really think Louisville was the best decision for me.”

He said he would continue to consider U of L if the Cards continue to recruit him, but he was unsure if U of L will do it.

He said there was no single factor that led to his decision except that “I’m trying to make sure I make the right decision for myself.”

Lyle, who committed to the Cardinals on June 26, said that he had tried to call but hadn’t reached U of L coach Rick Pitino or assistant Kevin Keatts to discuss his decision as of late Friday night, but he felt obligated to confirm it publicly when a report from Yahoo! Sports was temporarily posted online that said he was pulling his pledge.

Lyle said it would be Saturday before he discusses any schools he plans to consider going forward.

Tennessee, Florida, Indiana, Illinois and Ohio State were some of his top choices before he committed to Louisville.

He is the second top-level guard to withdraw a pledge to U of L in the past six weeks. Ballard High School’s Quentin Snider, who was committed to the Cards for nearly two years, reopened his recruitment in late July and committed to Illinois on Thursday.

Snider’s decision to withdraw his commitment was due primarily to the volume of high-level backcourt players, including, at that time, Lyle, who were slated to be on the roster in the coming years.

But Lyle said that was “not a major factor” in his decision to withdraw his pledge “because I thought I could come in and play right away. I was going to have to battle, and it wasn’t going to be easy. So it didn’t play a major role.”

Interesting coincidence that the number one player on the UT board is in town the same weekend the former number two player on our board decommits, while also a top 150 player that plays the same position as Lyle (Henriquez) stops being recruited by UT less than a week ago.

Just an interesting observation.

Looney is in town next weekend.

I'm thinking Illinois. But you gotta take this kid if he wants on board. Even if Looney commits. There's room. We've got 4 graduating. Stokes will go pro. Natural attrition will take care of the 6th spot.

His final 4 were Indiana, Louisville, Tennessee and Florida. If he comes out and Illinois is all of a sudden on his list, I would say that's likely where he's headed.

I definitely think you push for him, he's a guy you definitely make room for.

My only concern is that he committed to UofL immidately after coming to our elite camp. Could be something to look into?

FWIW the NCAA has barred recruiters from Huntingdon Prep and a couple of other high profile prep schools. They stated there were concerns with their academic integrity.

Tells me about his character that he didn't call Petino about this decision before it was leaked. Don't buy it for a second that he couldn't get hold of Petino or anyone on staff. Sounds like another Diva.

Seriously? He's a diva for decommiting?

Give me a break.
