I usually don't like watching Kung Fu movies--they have too much unbelievable fighting scenes for me. I have seen a fair number of real fights and people cannot take 50 blows and still look unhurt. LOL

What's the difference between Kung Fu and Karate?

To answer such a sophisticated question on the martial arts, I think we're gonna have to call in an expert...

Depends. Karate can be a number of different styles. I took a Japanese form of karate for several years called Wado-Ryu.

From my experience with open tournament fighting (I.e. lots of different styles) Kung fu is only useful if you invest a heck of a lot of time into it (as is pretty much all martial arts styles). They tend to lend themselves more to controlled, sport fighting but not much else.

Street fighting is just a different animal and you never want to be caught kicking at someone any higher than their lower abdomen. Because of this a lot of the martial arts people train in today are better for show than protection. Those axe kicks to the head are to dangerous and it's never good to be on one leg in a fight.

However if you run into someone who has really trained hard, and didn't get a "I went through all the correct forms and memorized the motions" black belt, then you could find yourself in some serious trouble.

I was always a middle of the road type guy but I knew some guys that could flat out put a knuckle dent in your skull.

Kung fu originated in China from multiple different styles, many of which are based on animal movements, Karate developed in Japan from an off-shoot of Shaolin Kung-fu brought over from China. :hi:

I heard the feng shui was really powerful. If you oriented your house just the right way and picked the right color of drapes and carpet, it will kick people's azzes for you. Tifwiw, IMHO, BBQ, Tojo Yamamoto

What about Tia Chi? Is that just for old people or could you actually knock some MF out with it? LOL

We had a Tai Chi master teach a class at our dojo once a month. He taught the forms you commonly see old folks do.
He definitely had knowledge to inflict pain.
