Anybody think the coaches knew about harris leaving and told smith he had a spot if he wanted to commit or is that just wishful thinking on my part?

I recently caught up with Rivals250 DB D.J. Smith, who told me he's still planning on taking an official visit to Knoxville on Jan. 24. He says Tennessee is still recruiting him and has a spot for him, but he's also supposed to announce a commitment on Jan. 13 and then take a visit to South Carolina on Jan. 17.

It will be interesting to see if that timeline plays out like that but it's worth noting.

"I've narrowed it down to two of them," he said. "Tennessee and South Carolina. I'm going to decide then I'm taking my officials coming up."

"I thought it over with myself and I just told myself that I wanted to play in the SEC," he said. "I want to play with the best of the best so I cut Clemson out and I think my best opportunity to play early is at either South Carolina or Tennessee."

Smith said his plan is to visit South Carolina on Jan. 17 and then Tennessee on Jan. 24. It remains to be seen if he'll still be able to visit both schools assuming he sticks to his commitment date of Jan. 13.

"Tennessee is still telling me they want me a lot because they need some more defensive backs," Smith said. "I know they have a bunch of big recruits and they've been encouraging to join them there."

Also said Miami wants him to take an OV and he might visit.

Yeah, he may commit and only visit South Carolina or vice versa. I'm just not sure there's room for him in Tennessee's class. Just passing along what he said, though.

Makes no sense to commit and then OV. If we have no room and he commits at USC as expected, I sure hope we don't allow him to OV.

If he plans on taking advantage of Miami and Tennessee then i say let him come to campus and put Big Charles at the front door like a bouncer and toss his person into the Tennessee River.

I think the coaches are very concerned with McDowell possibly taking a visit to Auburn, after the Lambert shenanigans, and want to make sure they have a solid back-up plan in place...Both DJ and Emmanuel Smith.

McDowell has stated numerous times on twitter that he is all VOL

Any reason on why we didn't pursue him harder? 6'0 corner ranked in the Top 125 on Rivals, and we could have him if we wanted him. What's the catch?
