'14 FL PF Willie Carmichael (UT commit 5/13/14)

Saw Carmichael's tape. No way he is 6'7". Maybe 6'5" unless he has grown since.

He is talented but several biscuits away from being SEC ready.

He is legit 6-7. I have seen him several times and talked to him face to face. His HS coach doesn't BS and list kids bigger than they are. He does need to gain some weight and he knows that. He is long and lean, but he's a very hard worker.

The short answer is no. This system isn't built for traditional bigs. This will be a strategic give and take. Most big teams will likely hammer us on the boards early on in games, but will wear down with our pressing length and athleticism. Creating turnovers on the front end essentially to negate our lack of brute strength and sheer size. I did think it was interesting CDT wanted McGhee at about 245+ though.

Thanks :good!:

No there's nothing going on there, mostella was that guy.

Dont think it was mostella or maybe theres a 2nd possible player because CDT mentioned again after the caravan stop in memphis that they would have to wait til summer for 1 or 2 guys. Course he could have been talking about 15 recruits.

You have a quote on that, because that's the first I heard of it. He said they've got some holes to fill and thought within 2 weeks they would be pretty much done, don't recall the 1-2 guys in summer comment.

First place.

I don't believe McKnight has signed. Don't know his situation but he could be it.

I will watch it again & check. I've seen so much news lately I may have that video mixed up with earlier one.

You're right he said 1 to 2 more front line players & they would save 1 scholarship for the summer. The 1 scholly comment sounded more like a save for next year than for 1 more player for 14

Sounds like JRich only a 4.

At this point, Willie is not thick enough to be a 4. For college basketball, he described himself as a 3 at this point. I'm not sure when he will report to Knoxville but they will need to get him on a plan to bulk him up.

Willie would be a good redshirt candidate

With the roster being filled with so many new players, it would seem to me that you have to let things shake out and see who rises to the top. If Willie had signed with UT last year, redshirting would have been nearly automatic. This year, I don't think anything has been decided other than JRich will be a starter.

That being said, it wouldn't surprise me to see Willie redshirt.

I think we're in for a long season if Hubbs can't win a starting job too. All kinds of bad implications if that's the case.

One thing about it. the majority of the roster will be tyndall's.
It's his team win or lose now.

Oh I'm not suggesting it's already decided, but with guys like Moore, Reese, McGhee, McKnight and even Owens all physically more ready than Willie and playing the same spot it would be beneficial for him to redshirt IMO.

As you said though there will be plenty of time to decide that, lots of practices and even exhibition games these guys can play in.

I think Tyndall should do a midnight madness solely for the purpose of a dunk competition...Here's Willie!

Carmichael, a four-year varsity player for Wekiva, averaged 13.6 points and 8.8 rebounds as a senior and was a relentless defender for a team that finished 25-5. He was selected to the Class 7A All-State second team and was a first-teamer on the Sentinel’s All-Area team.
Wekiva's Willie Carmichael switches college allegiance to Tennessee - Orlando Sentinel

UT's official announcement on Carmichael says, "The Orlando Sentinel named him the 7A State Player of the Year." This isn't quite correct; he was actually the 7A POY for District 11, which covers Orange & Osceola counties.
