"Quick recruiting note...

Jacksonville, Fla., cornerback Lamont Simmons told our Auburn affiliate that Tennessee leads tonight. He was in campus earlier in the week and is one of the fastest rising players in all of Florida. He's picked up a number of offers in the last few weeks."

Nice. Good tall, long, athletic corner. No way in hell he's a 2-star with offers from UGA,UT,AU,MSU,Wisconsin, and Vandy right now.

Currently with a Top Six of Auburn, Georgia, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Vanderbilt, Simmons says he hopes to make his decision sometime this summer so he can concentrate on his senior season. In the meantime he says he’ll just continue to try to narrow down his list until the right team rises to the top.

"I loved it. Seeing the new facilities and just touring the school was great," Simmons said.

"What impressed me was coach Martinez. He came up to the school a couple of times but actually seeing him at Tennessee and seeing the school was nice," Simmons offered. "He's a guy that's really recruiting me and he tells me he likes my size and he really wants me at Tennessee. I feel like we have a great relationship."

"I liked the weight room. It was probably the biggest weight room I saw on my tour," Simmons offered. "I got to talk to the strength coach and he was pretty cool and it seemed like he had a great relationship with the players."

"They have great engineering programs. One thing I want to do is be an engineer and I know that both schools have great academics. That really stood out to me," Simmons offered.

- Per VQ. Top five of Tennessee, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Georgia and Georgia Tech

Depends on how serious he is about being an engineer. Although I would think VT and GT engineering programs plus football might be a lethal combo.

Looks like Hokies lead per article on 247. No subscription here so someone could take a closer look.

“It felt pretty good. I didn’t even know I was on North Carolina or*Virginia*Tech’s radar,” said Simmons of the two new ACC offers. Both are in my top five right now as is Rutgers,*Tennessee*and*Georgia.” Both Georgia and Tennessee had extended offers this past spring.

“I’m still keeping my options open. I am going to enjoy the recruiting process and probably make up my mind sometime during the season,” said Simmons of a possible decision.

The 6-2, 185 pound defensive back was a blip on the recruiting radar screen just a few months ago. But Simmons has seen his stock soar the last few months with schools like Tennessee, Virginia Tech, North Carolina all offering. After a recent recruiting whirlwind tour that had Simmons seeing 10 schools, the Vols and the Hokies stood out the most to the two-star prospect who is likely to see more offers throughout the fall. Simmons has indicated that he's in no hurry to make a decision and recently talked about how good of a relationship he has with Vol assistant coach Willie Martinez.
