@lukestampini: Look Tennessee to hit SoFla this week looking for 2014 prospects. Deerfield ATH Brandon Powell already expecting a visit.

Deerfield Beach running back Brandon Powell's performances put him in elite company - Sun Sentinel

"My dream school is FSU, but that doesn't mean I'll commit on the spot if offered," Powell told me this week. "I want to go somewhere where I know I can play instantly and go to a school that has a great coaching staff."

Powell's relative anonymity won't last long — not if he continues on the path he's on. His big performances have produced a lot more YouTube videos to be rewinded and have moved him to No. 5 on the Sun Sentinel South Florida Top 10 for the Class of 2014.

two-way athlete brandon powell (deerfield beach, fla) is one of the fastest-rising prospects in the state of florida in the last four weeks or so.

Offers from cincinnati, indiana, marshall, massachusetts, northwestern, purdue, usf and west virginia had all come in for the 2014 prospect. But two big ones on the same day were the highlight.

"it was exciting, especially when i got tennessee and lsu in the same day," powell said. "that was a big day for me. It is just that they are in the sec. That is the big-time conference in college football. That's why it was so big for me."

nebraska is the most recent team to offer, having done so early this week. The cornhuskers aren't a program with which powell is familiar.

"i haven't done much research on nebraska," he said. "it was kind of just out of the blue that they offered me. I wasn't even [expecting] them offering me, it was just out of the blue."

the best he can tell, the programs that have offered really don't mind where he plays. They like how he plays and his physical attributes, and evidently that's good enough.

"i don't even think they care," he said. "right now it is early and they like my athleticism."

powell said he doesn't have plans right now to visit for junior days nor any other unofficial visits.

Deerfield Beach (Fla.) athlete Brandon Powell could play on either side of the ball in college and it looks like he will end up with some pretty intriguing options. Powell said Indiana continues to come after him hard but recently LSU and Tennessee stepped up with offers. The Tigers see Powell as a defensive back, while the Vols want him on offense. While Powell said he doesn't have a preference now, what he decides he wants to play should go a long way toward helping him decide which school gets his commitment.

"I do not have any favorites right now. I know I will visit South Carolina and Tennessee soon and I want to visit a few more schools, then get a top five together by the end of the summer."

RCS Interview: Brandon Powell - Rivals.com Video

Video on Rivals, not sure if you need a script.

Cliffs'

He is visiting TN for the O&W game. Top 4 schools recruiting him the hardest Tennessee, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Kentucky. Is an EE. Said he wants to go to a school not too far from home with a good tradition.

Sounds pretty good to me.

Athlete Brandon Powell nabbed a Wisconsin offer this week. The Badgers' history of producing successful college running backs caught Powell's eye. Kentucky and Tennessee also want the smooth skill player. He has plans to visit Knoxville for the spring game in a few weeks. The Deerfield Beach star is graduating early and will enroll in January.

We need something new besides this letter bombing. It was cool to Truitt but now we have to figure something new out. And I don't mean what Auburn or Clem$on do now

I noticed while he has a good offer list, none of the Florida schools not even UCF has offered. Seems very odd considering his other offers.

247 shows that coach Gillespie went down to Florida to visit him when he was at WV so there is a connection there. Probably means it was an easy transition to keep building the relationship.

The Vols were the first to offer the 5-foot-9, 167-pound athlete and Powell said he talks to Tennessee receivers coach Zach Azzanni almost every day through social media.

"He hits me up all the time on facebook and twitter. They were my first SEC offer so as soon as he and coach Butch (Jones) got there they offered me the scholarship," Powell said.

"Right now they're just saying they need me to go ahead and commit now and make it easy on both of us. All I'm waiting for is to see the campus first," Powell said. "That's all I'm waiting for. Just go visit those schools that have been showing the most interest in me and from there on I'll make my decision over the summer. They're showing the most interest. They're one of the schools up there."

"They have a big tradition at that school plus they're a big-time SEC school and it's one of the best conferences in college football," Powell said. "I've been hearing great things about Tennessee so that's why I really want to get up there and see the campus in person."

"First and foremost it's always academics and then just the college atmosphere. It doesn't matter how far away it is from home because my parents and family won't have a problem getting to the games," Powell said. "Then, just building those relationships with the coaches and making sure they're not just trying to play me to get me up on campus. I just want somewhere that fits me and where I can play."

He's an EE so a decision will be made in the summer. AU, LSU, and UK are making big pushes to try and get him. CZA has talked to him about playing in the slot and being a return guy. As of right now, it sounds like he is a take for sure.

He has wonderful vision and his explosion after the cut is awesome. I see some punt returns to the house with this young man! I hope FSU doesn't offer.
