'14 CA RB Joe Mixon

Never understood why top running backs want to go to Alabama when they have to sit behind 4 or 5 other running backs. Just disgusting.

Recruiting is Sales. You offer a different reason to buy - no matter the objection. Instead of early playing time, it's getting coached by Saban, and "we won't burn you out before you get to the NFL." This has a certain appeal to many RB prospects.

The good news is that CBJ is also a great salesman. He will also get to move past the early playing time tactic. No more lawyers at the helm.

"No more lawyers at the helm".

That was actually Dooley's best recruiting pitch. Get in trouble and I can get you cleared of all charges.

The personnel experts on VN say we don't need a 3rd back...Bama is going against this...

With scholarship limitations, it's an opportunity cost.

You take a 3rd RB, you can only take 3 OL or something like that.

Unless Alabama has our depth concerns at CB, LB, DL, OL, WR, and TE, then the situations are not the same.

I would think any top tier big backs realize that Butch's offense does not rely on pounding in between the tackles. We will always be loading up more on scat backs and slot guys

It's still a heavy run offense. There will be lots of btw the tackle runs. He's said that.

Incorrect how? The system's base play is a tailback draw? Most bruisers in the past have picked the pro-style. Hurd is a special player, but I don't think we will ever see a stable of 225 lb guys here under Jones

It's still a run heavy offense that will feature many runs between the tackles. That's also why they were so thrilled about Hill's emergence. They needed a 220lb back. I don't know ab a stable but when Hurd gets here there will be two backs 220lb or more.

I'm hopeful for Hill this season. Everyone reports the kid is busting his butt. Hope it pays off in '13.

Watch the Cinnci film, they are heavy run, but you could hardly describe it as a power ground game like we have seen at Alabama.

That was his 2nd year or so at UC. He had the personnel he had. Hell, I'd take Pead on this team. Can't really compare UC to Bama lol. He has stated its pro style with a heavy run game. That means power run game and it's also why Hurd,Hill,Lane, Paulk will be a serious problem for teams. Two power backs, and two other backs that are different in style. I guarantee you CBJ is smart enough to mold his attack after his personnel. If there is 2-3 215lb+ backs then we will be using a power run game.

I just think ppl don't really understand his offensive scheme. He is spread alot but These small guys were recruiting and guys like DY, Pig, and Carter will be used in the middle of the field and with short screens. He still like a big back so he can pound on defenses as well. He also will use guys like Marlin and Rajion who can catch the ball well out of the backfield as well. He will mix it up keeping teams on their toes. It will be short, efficient passes, power run btw tackles, and he will pick n choose times to hit a deep ball.

Take Mixon and we are so set.
I agree with that. I don't think CBJ has had the horses at RB or OL to run a power run game. Now, he does. Not saying they will be more conventional, but I do think they will rely less on out-scheming an opponent, and just hitting them where they are the weakest.

One team may be really solid against the run, but have a bunch of midgets at DB. In that case, I could see them throw to their giant WR's (3 guys at 6'4"+ and Blanc is big too, at 6'3") all day. Against teams with a smallish DL, they may elect to lean on them all day with a power run game.
