4 star across the board. Recently opened things up after Franklin left Vandy. Saw he retweeted something from a Vol fan and my search fu couldn't find a thread on him, so here we are.

I know it's a long shot and we don't have room, but it's not everyday a top 250 QB open up his recruitment just a few weeks before NSD. . .

Respect The T ‏@VoLBrick 18h
Everyone and their mom go follow @KJCS14 !!! De committed from Vandy and would be legend on rocky top! QB we really need.https://twitter.com/VoLBrick/status/422120494859845633 Retweeted by KJ Carta-Samuels #10

FWIW I think KJ either stays with Vandy or ends up back on the West Coast close to home. He's not going to follow Franklin to PSU to sit behind Hackenburg for the next few years.

yeah, hes so bad that hes a composite top 250 player and also went to "The Opening". offer lists dont mean everything. if this kid was never associated with Vandy, everyone would have a different perception of him.

I agree, but the opposite is equally likely too. For example, we have 2 top-250 Elite-11 QB's on the roster already and everyone says we need another QB since none of ours can play.

Offer lists don't mean everything, but neither do top 250 lists.

I would rather we go after another DT or RB.

I'm a believer in signing a QB in every class, and if the kid would like to come to UT, how can you tell him no? 4* QB according to every site, and a Rivals 250. We haven't signed a Rivals Top 250 QB since '05 with Crompton coming in at #60.

Atleast call him.

Except for Tyler Bray of course.

Neither were rivals top 250, but both were elite 11.

As many high school QB's there are in the nation......you can't compete for and make the Elite 11 competition....unless you are top tier worthy.

Correct. He's the best we've had since Crompdaddy.

We have no idea how good or possibly great our other Elite 11 QB is.....the mystery is driving most on VolNation nuts with what ifs.....with that said....didn't CBJ and company use practice tape of Fergy to impress Josh Malone here? If it was true then it was enough to wow the best high school WR and obviously the best JUCO WR here in this recruiting class too :dunno:

"Trent Dilfer is a great friend of mine and he texted me and said, 'We feel you have the best recruiting class in terms of quarterbacks in the country,' " Jones said.

Pretty powerful statement and opinion given he works out and coaches the best of the best QB's in the country out of high school.

I think he's better than Austyn, but still not sure he's that good. I wouldn't be mad if we made a push or not.

"Despite a grandfather that attended the school, a brother that was the starting quarterback and a commitment that dated all the way back to July of 2012, four-star quarterback K.J. Carta-Samuels has backed off of his commitment to Vanderbilt following the news of head coach James Franklin’s departure to Penn State.

“I’ve decommitted and I’m starting over,” Carta-Samuels said of his recruitment. “I’ve got to get serious with schools that I want to visit and schools that I would consider. Vanderbilt is just a choice now. It’s still a place I can see myself going but I’ve got to look around.”

Carta-Samuels, out of San Jose (Calif.) Bellarmine Prep, is open to any school in the country now and has a few schools that he has already either spoken to or plans to reach out to in the future.

“I have an eye out for UCLA, I’ve been talking to Boise State a little bit. I could consider a couple of schools. Penn State, I talked to Coach Franklin last night and he told me about Penn State. Tennessee, I want to get in contact with USC to see what their QB situation is like. I want to see what schools want a quarterback or who has too many and doesn’t need one.”

During his tenure at Vanderbilt, Franklin pushed heavily the appeal of a great city with great academics in a great city. However even with a player like Carta-Samuels with ties to the program, Franklin himself was a big part of the equation.

“He was probably about 50 percent of the factor,” Carta-Samuels said of Franklin. “He was a big part of it because as we know, Vanderbilt was not the most highly-regarded program in the past and it has really changed in the last three years. Without him I just don’t know if it’s going to go back to where it was. The tempo and environment, he offers such a positive outlook that impacts the whole team and I don’t know if another coach would come in and offer the same thing.”

Over the next three weeks, Carta-Samuels plans to take multiple official visits but as things stand now, he still plans to include Vanderbilt in that group. He has been scheduled to visit the Commodores on the weekend of Jan. 24. "
