While 25 top quarterbacks from the 2013 recruiting class spent the weekend in California showcasing their skills at the Elite 11 finals, a talented Los Angeles area quarterback in the 2014 class took the opportunity to head across the country to visit two traditional powers.

Brandon Dawkins (Westlake Village, Calif./Oaks Christian) and several family members had an opportunity to take in the sights this past weekend at Tennessee and Alabama. The visit to Tennessee was his first trip to a college campus that came complete with a tour and opportunity to meet a college coaching staff, and the 6-foot-3, 199-pound quarterback was impressed.

“It surpassed my expectations,” Dawkins said. “It was really great out there.”

There was a thought from Dawkins heading into the trip that a scholarship offer from the Volunteers could happen, but he wasn’t disappointed at walking away without one. He said getting a sense of the campus, the environment and the academic support system was well worth the trip. He also understands that it likely won’t be the last time he hears from the Tennessee staff.

“I’m going to be one of the top quarterbacks that they want to offer,” Dawkins said. “It was cool of them to say that. If they don’t offer soon, then I think they definitely will during the season.” -ESPN

Great potential and future Top 10 / 5* QB. IMO. Athletic, poised, and good arm strength. Will camp and expect an offer from Tennessee.

Have we heard anything about this kid lately? We are still in his top 3 from what I can see. Wonder if the new staff has contacted the kid. He would be a perfect fit for this offense.

I like this kid. He looks like he would fit our offense perfectly. I think I read somewhere he is originally from Alabama

So far, Notre Dame, Utah and NC State have offered Dawkins, rated as the sixth-best dual-threat quarterback and the No. 134 prospect in the 2014 class by Rivals.com.

During his trip to Georgia, Dawkins did not meet coach Mark Richt but he talked with a bunch of assistants and he's hopeful the Bulldogs continue to recruit him into his senior season.

Sounds like a wasted trip, shoulda came a little farther North to Vol Country & got bUTched by Jones.

If that was me coming from Cali to visit a school and head coach didn't even say a word, off my list for sure

Today, Tennessee coaches were by Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian to see QB Brandon Dawkins and RB D.J. Riggins...

Former Vols QB Casey Clausen is the offensive coordinator at Oaks...

One of my favorite quarterbacks this class. I would love to land him if we're not able to get Cornwell

Tried to commit to ND and they told him to wait this weekend

Being told to wait has to be a huge turn off in recruiting.

I hope Cornwall decides soon after the Bama camp. Either commit to Bama or let us know he is coming and may commit in June so we can make some decisions.

Have wondered why this kid would not be an option. Now that ND has taken a QB, you would think the coaches could talk him into Tennessee vs Utah. Maybe the staff does not like him in their offense.

?????

Anyone know why this kid would not work here?
