The recruiting classes of those two and UT disagree.

IMO we are more like a Miami or Michigan than anything.

A program high school kids across the country recognize as one of the "names" of college football but ones that they haven't been able to experience at the top of their games since they've been following CFB. They know they are capable and see the potential but have reasons to doubt. This gives the rivals of those schools ammunition against them and it is the only chink in those schools armor.

Nothing like Miss St and UNC.

:eek:lol:

You said in the eyes of recruits.

Ok.... Don't get me wrong here, I love Butch and everything he's done so far.

Even you should agree here, Butch got pretty lucky with the '14 class. Plenty of legacies and a surprising deep pool of instate talent. Also helps when you have guys like Thig on staff. FWIW, I'm not discrediting what Butch has done, only bringing up that the circumstances kinda worked in our favor for this clas.

That's why I'm going to judge Butch more on the '15 class, more so than the '14 class.

We have won 15 games in the past 3 years, UA won 13 all of last year alone. All I'm saying is, the perception of UT (in recruits eyes) changed a little bit. I'm completely surprised we have made it as far as we have with AJ.

Yes, this class that Butch has assembled has many legacies and instate ballers. Many of those kids would not be Vols if Butch wasn't here. No way Dooley lands Hurd, Bates, The Berry twins, Malone, Gaulden, Barnett or Wharton. And he definitely doesn't have a shot with guys like Hendrix, McDowell, Blair, Pearson, etc...

And the '15 class already has 4 - 4 stars. We're sitting #4 in the country on 247 for '15 class rankings. And you know how good of shape we're in for so many more '15 ballers.

Honestly, TCV, not sure where you're going with this argument. Yes, we've lost many games lately but we're still UT, a top 10-15 program nationally, we spend more on recruiting than any other team in the country, our facilities are top notch, Neyland with 102k is hard to beat, the SEC is the best conference, we've fallen a bit but Butch is building it back. These things go in cycles and it takes time.

But we are not UNC or Miss st, those programs couldn't hold UT's jock.

Agree with your last statement, Ron.

Yes we've recruited extremely well given our circumstances. I'm beyond thrilled about this class.

I guess I'm just really surprised Adoree is giving UT as hard of a look as he is considering our wins-losses over the past several years.

Idk, stupid argument by me I guess. If we're recruiting like this at 5-7.... Wait til we are a 10 win team lol

Don't think the two sides of the argument are mutually exclusive here. Jones appears to be pretty formidable on the recruiting trail but a great class can sometimes be built on perception and momentum. I don't think it's too ridiculous to say that the legacy component and the above average in state talent this year caused momentum that abnormally changed the perception of Jones real first class of his own.

I agree that not many 5-7 teams recruit this well after going 5-7 and 5-7 lol. Butch and his staff are amazing, they really are. I mean, they shouldn't be recruiting this well as you've pointed out hahaha. But they are and why is that? Because UT has everything in the world to sell and Butch is a master salesmen apparently. They're just relentless recruiters and these recruits believe the vision and want to be apart of it.

And you're right in '15 and '16 when UT is winning 10 games the recruiting will be pretty special, top 5 will be the norm if Butch can get those wins. Let's enjoy the ride, my friend...:salute:

Makes me cringe to see we have fallen so low as to being mentioned with the lesser teams. I have no doubt that Butch will get us back to our rightful place though.

OH, I'm sure youve already been asked this or stated this, but if you had to quantify our chances of landing Adoree, what percentage would you put on it?

Might could be.

Looks like its snowballing into the '15 class as well.

Wouldn't surprise me to see top 5 class again next yr

Don't disagree about '15 and maybe it would've worked out exactly the same way regardless of the legacies but it seems like they were a bit of a perfect storm for Jones that got the ball rolling down hill that will hopefully result in continued success year after year, as long as some wins come too.

I wouldn't bet on us getting AJ but the fact that it is mid-January and we are still in it gives me more and more hope each day. Butch's recruiting this year has been fantastic and this committment would be icing on the cake.

Agree on the wins. You trust the play caller?

Wow. Whatever it takes on the recruiting trail, I suppose... thanks for going that extra mile, Butch!

:good!:

If I am being optimistic, I'd say that I don't distrust him yet due to essentially having one hand tied behind his back talent wise but if I'm being realistic I'd say that I'm already skeptical.
